Ok 1st of all why would Philly want to trade Couturier
2nd of all Couturier would just leave buffalo in 2022, meaning that it doesn't make sense for Buffalo to get him over a prospect or another pick

I said in the description that this assumed extensions so I'm guessing you couldn't be bothered to read that? Eichel is better than Couturier so it's an upgrade right there. The trade as a whole turns Couturier and Konecny into Eichel and Jones which addresses their needs on the back end and upgrades their 1C position. They have forward depth in spades.

No way couturier is extending if it's understood that he's being traded to buffalo

    It's common sense
Buffalo is a terrible organization in a below average NHL city
No star player would voluntarily decide to go to buffalo over another team

Ahh so we're pretending our opinions and biases are facts now.
Solid way to have conversations and discussions.

Wait so you're saying that buffalo is a good organization that hasn't constantly turned off star player after star player?

I never said I disagreed with your opinion.
Just that taking merit away from someone's ideas with nothing but opinion, conjecture, and bias is a pretty lame way to have a discussion.

    Ok...
Then I'd say that philly should not do this especially if they are able to extend Couturier
A top line C, a top 6 W, a good F prospect, a top D prospect, and a lottery pick for a slightly better C and an overrated defenseman that will be very expensive on an extension doesn't make much sense for philly

I agree that Jones is SUPER overrated. If I was Philly I would do other things to. BUT, I don't think this trade is out of the realm of "fair enough".
I would probably do it without York as well.

    Interesting 3WT AGM

I'll start with the Couturier motivation factor as yeah it does seem like the crux and I guess it just requires the extension is really hefty like 11M$ with nmc ntc etc.

But hey he's phenomenal and worth every penny

Though my guess is he'd need term at 5+ years

    Which is tough

Likely a significant cap burden from 33-35

But hey if that's what they could salvage from this brutal situation BUF put themselves in then not a bad silver lining at all and a quality trade on your part

Then they'd just need to unload Okposo asap

And instead of Hoffman sign Perry to 900k

So a little awkward but ultimately pretty ok overall

Yeah I'd see it as ideal for them to just tank rebuild for the next while but naturally not acceptable after most of a decade doing that so this makes sense here ^

    They're like Arizona east 🏜

They just have to stabilize the franchise & compete rn

Almost certainly would have to overpay Dougie too -not many museums in buffalo- 😉 so heck why not Barrie at 5M$ to just get an elite PP skillset instead

So the Jackets give up all of that just to end up with Reinhart Konecney and Ristolainen? Terrible! This trade is beyond lopsided.

My biggest thing with dougie is the family and everything in Niagara. But yeah he and Couturier might need a little more to commit here. I think an Okposo retirement is imminent. We haven't heard anything since the broken face head injury when we'd heard the last one needed to be the last one.

I mean I know Foudy has value as a prospect but Merzlikins is in the bottom third of the league as a starter. Jones is barely better than Risto and I've got plenty of statistical graphics if you'd like. Gavrikov is at his ceiling as a 2LD. If anything they need to give up more lol

I'll give him 3M but he's from the GTA so "close to home". Idk market for bottom 6 forwards really dried up with the flat cap. A little extra money will go a long way.

Clearly you didn't read the description where this all included extensions... Reino is also an RFA so he needs a contract no matter what whether it's 1 year or 7.

No, I read that but realistically that is not going to happen. So the return makes no sense for the Jackets.

If there aren't extensions then the trade falls apart yes. But no reason why there can't be extensions. Unless you have some information that I haven't come across?
