If We Never Signed JT

Created by: DougieGilmour
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2021
Published: Jun. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming our lineup without him including Kadri (cue someone mentioning his suspension here) Brown, and the albatross Zaitsev contract, and the rest of the team being what it is, we are in a better cap position right now and we can make moves to dump our filler players and we could have paid Seattle to take Zaitsev. I see a team that’s better off than we currently are.

  1. Tavares, John
Additional Details:
In a fantasy world where we didn’t waste this much money trying to pay two top line centres
2.

  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
Also assuming we undo this trade
3.
TOR
  1. Brown, Connor
  2. Zaitsev, Nikita
Additional Details:
Getting Brown back is great but we’d still have to move Zaitsev

  1. Walker, Sean
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (STL)
LAK
  1. Rielly, Morgan
Additional Details:
Rielly almost certainly would consider resigning in LA compared to another place we could move him (hello Winnipeg) which makes this a decent price to pay from the Kings standpoint and probably a better offer than we’d get from a pure rental location

This team just isn't as scary. Brown is not close to Nylander or Kadri. That second line is fine but not fantastic. Perhaps we also have a coach that gets them playing for each other and any talent shortcomings are solved.

I've never liked the signing for Toronto. Thought they needed to go for #1 and #2 D and redo the depth lines.
DougieGilmour and Cooper2015 liked this.

Our current team scared no one. That’s a four line team. We don’t have one of those right now
