Description
So I am 100 percent not on the trading Marner. He is such a good talent and guy for Toronto but I always speculate what Toronto's cap situation would like look without out him on the roster. Take a look below and see if you agree at all.

That's the thing. I've been tempted to trade him so many times while creating ACGM teams because it frees up so much cap space. I agree with you though. Don't trade Marner. But it will 100% help our cap situation.

A Marner trade will may look something like that. (I still think it's too much for Marner) Though if getting all those picks, Henrique somewhat cap dump has to come back in any team

This particular trade I am not a huge fan of personally but, to answer your question.... Yes.

I love Marner. I think he is a terrific kid and an amazing player. He just makes too much money. I do see both sides of the argument here but, I think it would be in the Leafs best interest to trade Marner, Kerfoot and Rielly this offseason so the 19.4 million dollars in cap space that that will create can be redistributed more effectively to build a really balanced team from top to bottom.

I know this will not be a popular concept amongst the blue-goggled faithful but, in my honest opinion, its time.

This isn't working and running it back won't change anything. It will just close the window a little more.

See I know Henrique isn't the top 6 center he use to be, but if you watched him at the IIHF Worlds this past month he looks good. Think he would fit in great on that third line and allows Kerfoot to play up and down lineup.

Completely agree, just a tough cap situation no matter what way you look at it.

So the Reilly part saddness me, as he is my fav D in a long time, however will muzzin and Sandin coming of age, it doesn't make sense to keep Reilly unless he took a huge pay cut (still think he should be wearing the C) The kerfoot hate I don't understand at this point, he can play anywhere in the line up which I love.

Overall, this offseason is going be wild in terms of how much does the team really change? Andersen, Fiolingo, Thorton, Simmonds are all gone for sure, where does Hyman go? Who comes in who goes out?

Hyman will leave. He deserves a big raise and he will get it as a UFA. The same applies to Rielly. After this coming season Rielly will be a UFA and deserving of a big raise (7+ Million), and he will get it as a UFA. You can take that to the bank.

The Leafs are not in a position to extend either of those guys and keep the core together. They just can't do it. It would cripple the depth.

Falling in love with your own players is a dangerous game. I love both of those guys, but, it is time to make the tough choices.

Yep totally agree and I think Dubas understands that, which is why I tossed out the idea of trading Marner. You cant fall in love with a single player and I think the biggest problem outside of a killer instinct this season was when the injuries hit, we didn't have the depth to fight it.

If there is any leaf to trade to clear cap space it has to be JT..... and i know that's going to spark an argument but 31 in September making 11M a year compared to just turned 24 making 10.9M a year and what you get for points in return Marner has the more points per game

Well, you can forget that because it sin't happening. Nor should it. Centre depth is critical. We have two good ones. They should both stay.

THE LEAFS SHOUD HAVE NEVER SIGNED JOHN TAVARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is your cap space

It sucks that we even have to have discussions of trading away a 24 year old winger to free up cap space.

you can easily get a good second line center for half the amount JT would cost
