Given Rielly's position of Left D and his playing style I really don't think the Canucks should be targeting him. Parayko, Jones, Hamilton, and a couple more RD may be available as UFAs this summer or the following. Seems much better to wait. This yr we take our medicine so we can compete for a few a yrs in a row.

I agree it is just a move that wouldn't shock me to see Benning do. If we didn't have the emergence of Rathbone I would actually be quite happy with getting Reilly. But I think Rathbone will be a top 4 d pretty quickly and then we have a logjam on the left side.

I only think the Rielly deal could make sense if Benning has the brain capacity to do a flip using him as a very valuable asset (e.g. trading him to a team that desperately needs an offensive left defensemen such as pittsburgh tho i don't really know about that). Canucks should pursue an offensively talented but also defensively solid right D during free agency or via trade so our right side doesn't implode next season.

Speaking to my Leafs friend he absolutely hates Rielly. Says he is just hopeless defensively. Poor decision maker. Thats always been how I viewed him too despite having great size and speed. With Hughes and Rathbone we need solid defensive play absolutely. Rielly won't supply that.
