Description
This offseason, the front office needs to add depth to the 4th line and shore up the defense. The young defenseman were serviceable in the regular season, but completely overrun in playoffs (injuries definitely didn't help)

I don't know if Vegas will be able to hold on to Martinez, so he should be the #1 LD they look at. He can eat minutes, move the play along, and hold down the defensive zone. I'd hope 5x5 is enough for him, but there's definitely a chance someone gives more term and more money.

McCabe was one of the lone bright spots in Buffalo before tearing his ACL and MCL. I think a short term deal with a slight raise with a chance to play on a contender would entice him not to return to Buffalo. He's very effective defensively, and he could pair with Carlo as a shutdown pairing.

Hakanpaa is a big bodied defensive defenseman that we could've used this year in the playoffs.

For forwards added scoring is brought to the bottom six with the Coleman signing. I don't know if 3x3 is enough to pull him away from Tampa, but I've seen people signing him for 2 on here as well so not really sure where his value lies.

I personally think Studnicka and Frederic should get full playing time this year. Stud leads the 3rd line with DeBrusk and Coyle as his wings. Frederic leads an energy line with Coleman and Lazar. Ideally this bottom six provides better offense throughout the whole yea, especially the fourth line which really couldn't get worse than it already was.

Anderson is brought in as a veteran backup to Swayman, who I would have be the #1 while Tuukka sits on IR recovering from his hip. I think 2x4 for Tuukka is fair considering what he can still bring to the table, but that cap hit could go down even more if he and Boston hold off on signing until mid-season.

"I'd hope 5x5 is enough for him, but there's definitely a chance someone gives more term and more money" Remember a certain David Backes? Or Matt Beleskey?

Boston is in a tough spot. They are too good of a roster not to try and compete however they could put themselves in a fantastic position to rebuild with Pasta and McAvoy being so young.

Trading away Marchand and Bergeron would bring back a bounty. They could then also use the cap space to bring on cap dumps for a few more 1st round picks. In 2-3 years you could be looking at an elite core of young players coming up behinds studs on both ends of the ice.

bruins won't trade them yet. Bruins will try to compete this year and then depending how marchand and bergy play that season and if they go will decide whther they look to move marchand the following offseason, i can't see bergy leaving he will retire a bruin

Oh yeah. And I didn't like those deals when they happened. Maybe I'm naïve, but I think Martinez would at least be worth this deal in terms of pushing us to a cup run.

i like this team a lot, is ekholm a big upgrade for martinez? if so i wouldn't have a problem moving debrusk in package for him and then playing coleman 3rd line and aquiring a different 4th liner

I'd say Ekholm is an upgrade. My thought process in not trading for him was with Nashville making the playoffs, and how highly touted he is, it would most likely be at least a 1st round pick and then some needed to get him. With the age of Bruins core, and lack of good prospects, I wanted to keep the 1st and decided to sign Martinez.

interms of defensive ability i do like martinez he is a great shot blocker and his quite decent offensively aswell i just wish he was bigger thats why i asked about ekholm. ive watched lots of vegas games this year but very few on nashville so i didnt know if ekholm was still a top dman like he once was

Yeah Ekholm does have a tad more size and physicality than Martinez. For added size, my next thought after McCabe was Oleksiak. He'd bring a massive presence to the left side which we didn't have last year and could be put with Carlo for a shut down pair or with Hakanpaa to be a bruising physical pair.

Ya I think ekholm could play anywhere really, him and mcavoy would be a top pairing in the league and would allow mcavoy to play a little more offensively but with Carlo you would get a hug shut down line. I think I’d prefer to split up grzzz and mcavoy just to have offensive production on both lines
