A guy I was thinking of is Hakanpaa at Dallas. He's a big man (6'6", 220) who hits a whole lot. Him and Forbert could be a nice 3rd pair to just beat up opponents, but that means losing out on Reilly's puck moving ability. With the mock here, I felt the 3rd pair gave the same sort of dual zone abilities as Carlo and Gryz. One guy is offensively gifted and the other is a big defense-first guy. But Hakanpaa just signed with Dallas this offseason so I don't know if there's any willingness to trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snowball</b></div><div>Personally I’d put sweeny’s 2021 disgrace, I mean foligno down to the 4th, keep coyle at 3C with haula and steen on the sides if this was to happen.
But do you really see that being enough to win a cup? 2 very dangerous lines, one third line that got great puck possession skills and 4th line grinder? Possible
But the d is where it gets little sketchy, top pair , idk if there’s a better defense in the league to be honest, but after that defense becomes a liability, probably better off to honestly swap Grez and chychrun, let run and Mac shifts overlap here and there to get ice time where it needs to be for both, but then that third pair is kinda sketchy, would really like to see one of forbort or Reilly moved for decent cheap 3 RD rental</div></div>
I think Foligno could ply anywhere on that bottom 6 depending on chemistry. He definitely hasn't been the player I thought the Bs were getting but think his value is still there for either line. I debated on Chychrun being with McAvoy or Carlo, but ultimately went top pair. Gryz and Carlo have proven that they work very well together so I wouldn't hesitate to keep them together.
Overall I think this team would compete strongly for the cup. Our last few playoffs have been one dangerous line that can score, one possession heavy line with some offense (Krecji) and then 2 energy/grinder lines. This team immediately goes in with a top 6 that is filled with scoring playmakers which the Bs desperately needed the last few years. Once team shut down March-Bergy-Pasta the team grinded to a halt. Giroux centering Hall and Pasta means teams have to very much worry about more than just one line.

Yeah Suter is definitely declining, but has still shown he can eat minutes and drive play offensively. Think I saw he was in the 86th percentile when it came to o-zone play. Krug and Carlo worked so well together, which is why I went the initial route of putting Suter with Carlo.

Yeah these pairings weren't me trying to say Gryz isn't worthy of a top pairing assignment, I think he showed he can handle it. There are also some games (with every defenseman Bruins have) where you wonder what they're doing on D. With McAvoy really taking a jump this year in confidence in the offensive zone, part of my reasoning is that maybe Oleksiak allows him to drive play even more with a big-bodied defenseman next to him.
But a D of:
Gryz-McAvoy
Oleksiak-Carlo
Suter-Clifton
would still work for me.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xolie</b></div><div>Grzelcyk plays on the first pair for a reason, he creates many opportunities and uses his speed and playmaking abilities to his advantage, by this I can tell you have little knowledge of the Bruins if you think Suter and Oleksiak are better.</div></div>
This is purely for the window the Bruins have left. I think Oleksiak alongside McAvoy would be a very good pairing. I think Carlo with Suter (and also Gryz) will be an extremely effective pairing. Gryz and Carlo have proven in the past how effective they are. Any of the 3 LDs could move up and down depending on chemistry and match ups, these are just the ones I thought would be good to start the year.

Here we go again
I like the idea of Mojo purely to try and get Coyle going (I hate that on his contract he needs any motivation though). I'd say that Mojo should be on Coyle's RW with Debrusk at 3 LW. He's proven time and again he can't play off wing, so with these pieces, I'd keep him on his natural side with Coyle at center and Mojo at 3 RW. Then line 2 is the same with Hall-Krejci-Smith which was superb after the trade deadline. I like the size Oleksiak brings and think him and Carlo would be a great shutdown pair, or he could help sure up the defensive side on McAvoy's pair.

I think Hall maxes out at 6 if he meant it when he said he's made his money and wants a place to call home. I think the Bs could go up to 6.5 with him if needed, but that puts more of a crunch on the other deals. And it's interesting you would have Oleksiak on the 1st pairing, I personally hadn't been looking at him as higher than a 2nd pairing shutdown with Carlo.

Yeah Ekholm does have a tad more size and physicality than Martinez. For added size, my next thought after McCabe was Oleksiak. He'd bring a massive presence to the left side which we didn't have last year and could be put with Carlo for a shut down pair or with Hakanpaa to be a bruising physical pair.

I'd say Ekholm is an upgrade. My thought process in not trading for him was with Nashville making the playoffs, and how highly touted he is, it would most likely be at least a 1st round pick and then some needed to get him. With the age of Bruins core, and lack of good prospects, I wanted to keep the 1st and decided to sign Martinez.

I wouldn't say Debrusk and Jesse are a 1st away. Did Debrusk forget to show up this year? Yes. But he never had less than 35 points in his first three years. Yeah I thought it was a huge contract. My thoughts before reading Fluto's post were no more than 3 years for Reilly. I think him and Carlo pair well together, and with a full offseason together you'd hope they'd have that chemistry that they didn't have after trade deadline due to injuries.

I assume the price will be high though, I am a rangers fan obviously but young puck moving RHD who put up points are not cheap. Curious to see how other fans feel.</div></div>
My assumption when I clicked the article is that the price would be sky-high, but to see Roslovic and a 2nd as their "top offer" was surprising. I would assume any deal revolving around a 1st would probably want an extension in place.

And I think we're looking at Backes coming off the books, and potentially Chara too depending on how this season ends for the Bruins. And me having him on the third pairing doesn't mean I feel he isn't needed here. I think having that puck moving defensemen on the right side is immensely important for the Bs. You could rotate him and Carlo as the games progress depending on the need of the team. Need offense? Deangelo gets more time to try and get the breakouts going. Need to shut them down? Carlo gets more time against the top players to limit chances. And I think you could see him driving PP2 for the Bs. He's more Krug-like than McAvoy and I think that could help turn PP2 into a more reliable scoring unit.

Move Coming
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>The issue is that the Kings would not accept Toffoli for Heinen, unless they're just hoping to flip him. Cost-control doesn't necessarily matter to the Kings. They're not in any sort of cap crunch. But the biggest issue is that Heinen would take up a spot at the expansion draft. What the Kings are looking for in return for Toffoli is some combination of expansion draft-exempt prospects or picks in the upcoming draft. Heinen is not either of those.
Lauzon+Shen+2nd for Martinez isn't bad on it's own. I'm still not a fan of the quality of players coming back, but it's closer than Heinen for Toffoli. Lauzon would be available for Seattle to pick, Shen wouldn't which is good. But Shen has 8 points in 30 games. Not exactly lighting the world on fire.
I still think the Kings say no. Just doesn't fit what they want, and they should be able to get more from selling the two separately to other teams.</div></div>
I think Heinen better fits the Kings than people think. He's a solid two-way middle six forward who is starting to regain his confidence in shooting.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>shmoeman</b></div><div>Why are we giving up assets for a dman we dont need?</div></div>
Martinez would be a good add for the Bs. Do we "need" him? No, but he solidifies that third pair and is a considerable upgrade from John Moore or Kevin Miller. And he's controlled through next season as well so you're not as vulnerable if Chara decides to retire.

The last speculation I saw on Twitter from one of the big fan run news accounts was that Bjork and Heinen were the two names they were being told were coming up in talks most often with the Bruins. I'm also a fan of Heinen's, but if I'm choosing between him and Bjork I'm driving Heinen to the airport myself.
I'm excited to see Bjork tested on Krecji's right tonight though. He's definitely a guy I envision in the top 6, by it on Krecji's left/right or Bergy's right.

Possible move to dump Backes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>The team can choose to either put him on IR or LTIR. LTIR means they can spend above the cap ceiling by his cap hit in order to replace him if they wanted to. IR there isn't any cap relief, the player just doesn't count as an active player on the roster anymore. So they can add another player to the roster and go over the 23 man limit. But once again, no cap relief. There is also some differences in how long the player must be "injured" for to apply for either category. If you have small injury that only has you miss 1-2 games or whatever, you can't go on LTIR because the player must not be able to enter the lineup for X amount of days to qualify for LTIR. Its so teams can't "cheat" the system. They still do however but its technically legal.
Ottawa has him on IR solely so that they can stay above the salary cap floor while not having to pay him. That's it.
Late edit: Ottawa purposefully doesn't want players that they have to pay actual dollars to. They actively want Gaborik because they aren't paying him but his cap is helping them reach the floor. So Backes being healthy enough to play at least a little forces them to have to pay him. They don't want that at. They'd prefer a 700K player instead of Backes so they can keep the salary overall lower.</div></div>
Appreciate the input, I didn't realize that's how the difference between IR and LTIR worked.
Bcarlo25- I know he struggled last year, but he's back on a 20 goal pace this year. Do you not think he has the skill set to gel and succeed with Krecji?
