Description
Welcome to some creative mad Lad thinking

We buy out Neal. Obvious decision really the trade was for flexibility at expansion might as well use it.

The kassian trade. So with Burke at the helm. Chuckles. He likes grit. Kassian bring what he would be looking for. Zucker , my thinking here is oilers get less term at the cost of 2.3 million in cap space. The third is a little extra. I doubt this happens. But who knows

Brining back Nuge and Larson on reasonable deals because having good players is nice. Though Edmonton needs more

The goalies are a tricky spot. There a a few good UFa choices
And with holland saying he wants to bring back smith. Well it’s more or less set so we have him back. Leaving us to deal with Mikko. You can’t expect the oilers to push forward with the same duo for a third time. Square peg round hole kinda deal.

So reports I have seen say Edmonton leaning 7-3-1. They don’t have 7 Fwds worth protecting lol. So we might as well use jones as the asset/ sweetener via trade or expansion. So Mikko is a kraken via said hand shake deal

Yamo on a bride deal makes the most sense. Had an off year in terms of finishing. Save a few bucks here and there

Now the ufa/trade. Still having cap space and a first. Pending on who falls or what’s out there we could use this as a weapon to get a peice. Instead of the ufa market

Hertl fits this bill. One year left sanjose. Needs assets and to get younger. 19th over can help and oilers get a player now. Might need a warm body to thread the needle here

Coleman checks every box you would want so a 4 year deal sounds reasonable at the 3.5-4 mill range. Could get out bid

We need to find some stop gaps on LD. I like a few of the UFAs available with the ever questioning health of klefbom

Oleksiak checks the boxes. Especially if paired with Bouchard. Be ready Oilers. He’s the Goods IMO

Now we need a goalie stop gap for the hopefuls in konolov and skinner

Ullmark kept his head above water in the poor franchise that is buffalo so he’s the candidate in this situation

Leaving space for a klefbom return. (PLEASE BE HEALTHY) or a deadline deal. Might need to find a better 3LD that can move the puck if paired with Larson or a legit 3c but McLeod with some good forwards should provide the out scoring line the oilers desperately need

Add Holloway and a cap dump and it’s a pretty good Hertl deal

Sharks will be looking for considerably more for Hertl, so it’s a decline as is.

I think Pgh would make that trade. Maybe a late 2nd though.

Kassian is an overpaid bottom 6, but Hextall and Burke want size and toughness. And to draft “their type of players into the organization”. And free up cap space.

IMO, it would be stupid. Zucker is a top 6, 20 plus goal scorer. He’s fast and pesky too.

But he’s not the type of player to come to Sid or Guentzel’s defense. Or any teammates really. Not Burke and Hextall’s type player.

But IMO, top 6, 20 plus goal scorers just don’t grow on trees. U can’t go out and just sign another. Pens have been trying to find another forever. And paid a lot for Zucker.

He had 12 points in 15 games last season b4 he got injured. And was injured and wasn’t healthy this season either.

Never got into a routine and chemistry with any line and never even got hot. And still had 18 points(9 goals) in 38 games(still .5 PPG). And he was never fully healthy.

Again, top 6, 20 plus goal scorers, just don’t grow on trees. I see people adding draft picks for Seattle to take Zucker. That’s ridiculous.

If Blueger, ZAR, Tanev and Zucker were left unprotected. U 100% take Zucker. He’s just a different caliber of player. And Blueger, ZAR, and Tanev are great. I’m a fan.

But even with an extended role, you arnt getting much more from them. Blueger and ZAR are both 27 years old. Not prospects anymore. You arnt getting much more from them than they produced the last 2 seasons. And they have played great. Great two-way players. They have over produced.

But let’s not kid ourselfs. They arnt or will never be a top 6, or score 20 plus goals in a season. Definitely not 33 goals like Zucker has.

And Zucker turns 29 In January. Will be 29 all next season. And is signed just two more years after, until he is 31.

If Seattle drafts him and decides to trade him at the Trade deadline and retain 2M for 2 years. He’s a huge asset. They will get a good return. More than Blueger or ZAR or Tanev would. And again, not knocking them, I’m a fan!!

But to see people saying “Pens add for Seattle to take Zucker” is just ludicrous. How many legit top 6 forwards are gonna be left unprotected??

Anyways. I think trading Zucker for Kassian is a mistake for the Pens and would be a great move for Edmonton. But I think Burke and Hextall would do that deal for the size, and physicality of Kassian and the draft pick. And the little bit of cap relief.

Would be a great move for Edmonton though!!
