Baby Steps

Team: 2016-17 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2017

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The premise here is to have fairly minor trades that improve the team long term without letting valuable assets go to waste.

CBJ Trade: Bob needs a backup to spell him for a deep playoff run. Flyers need a young sniper (prospect) who is close to being ready to be on the big club.

OTT Trade: Doesn't matter what team this trade is made to it is all about getting something for Streit before he leaves in free agency.

ARI Trade: Flyers need a bigger bodied right handed defensive defenseman that can be a place holder while the kids get seasoning in the AHL. The Flyers only traded L. Schenn last year to get the Lecavalier deal done. He is now on a better contract and not burdened as much by the unrealistic expectations of where he was originally drafted. They give up a mid-level forward prospect and some later round picks to get the deal done.

COL Trade: Colborne has had a terrible year with the Avs. Weise is a bit of a lightning rod for the Flyers and both could use a change of scenery. A 4th round pick and mid-level right handed defensive prospect even out the extra two years on Weise's contract.

EDM Trade: Get something for Del Zotto which helps the Oilers playoff run and gets the Flyers another pick as well as another D prospect to who can stay with the big club to finish out the season. Caggiula can't crack the Oilers lineup but would add needed depth to the Flyers prospect pool.

No big splash top line/pairing trades here but smart fair trades that should improve the teams involved.

I am okay with all the moves. However I would move Del Zotto too. You could get a decent pick or prospect for him. UFA and gone at the end of the year. Maybe Shultz if I could get any thing in return

Agree on Schultz but at this point I am not sure they can get anything for him. Usually when you have a deadline rental they have played during the year. Schultz barely gets a start anymore which limits his already questionable value. Del Zotto I am not sure about. Yes I hate seeing him lost for nothing to free agency but at the same time if he is dealt they will have to call up one of the prospects. And Hextall seems to want to keep them down making a Calder Cup run with the Phantoms. Besides none of the other moves really weaken the Flyers for their own playoff run(short as it may be). Despite the down year Del Zotto on the third pair would be pretty solid and probably better than the rookies getting their first NHL games under their belt.

Trade MDZ to EDM for Reinhart and a pick, that way we don't have to move one of the kids up.

Not bad but it does weaken the defense a little bit for this season.

Who cares about this season! We have no chance at winning a round let alone the Cup
