Instead of blowing a hole in the roster and prospect pool in a trade for a 1C, a couple stopgaps are signed. This buys more time for the Wild to assess both the market and internal candidates. Marco Rossi could be ready to take a spot by the end of training camp, but it would be unfair to expect it out of him after missing most of last season. If he is ready, the lineup can easily be adjusted to accommodate him.

Eriksson Ek and Sturm are given promotions in the lineup. Eriksson Ek is rewarded the 1C slot after an incredible breakout year. Sturm is moved to the 3C replacing Eriksson Ek after a great rookie season in which he displayed his north-south speed and forechecking ability. He will be a great fit on that line as he plays the same style as Greenway and Foligno.

Kaprizov is given a four-year deal so that when Parise and Suter's contract come off the books, the Wild will be in good position to offer him and his agent the massive deal they will be looking for.

Fiala is given more term after it appeared Kaprizov would get more term. Having two gamebreakers on the team makes the lineup more dangerous and difficult to contain.

Parise is bought out so he can pursue other opportunities. It will be difficult to find a trading partner with the flat cap and internal budgets.

To replace Parise in the lineup is Connor Dewar. Dewar is viewed in high regard by management and after having a great season in Iowa, he is primed to make the team. The team could use his speed and tenacity.
