You do not retain in an Eichel deal no matter how many late firsts they give you. He is under contract for another 5 years

I don't care about the next 5 years. They aren't winning a cup in that time frame with Skinner's contract anyways. May as well absolute maximize the return on Eichel.

The team will be stacked with talent in 6 years though

Would you give up another 2nd rounder in 2023?

Define stacked? Vegas would be stacked and every 1st and 2nd round pick would be upper 20's mid 50's for the second rounders. There is absolutely nothing of substance coming back to Buffalo except Krebs. Reilly is a 30 year middle winger and Cody Glass hasn't lived up to his draft status. This is an easy no

We would once again be the laughingstock of the league. That return is sufficient for Eichel or the 50% retention for multiple years, not both. Only way I'd ever dream of retaining that much on him is if McDavid or Mackinnon are coming the other way which would never happen

When was the last time Buffalo made the playoffs? They have been mismanaged horribly and need to rebuild properly. Trading Eichel for less and not retaining on him won't get Buffalo to the playoffs.

Just wait until you see what Buffalo actually gets for Eichel and you'll be wishing they'd have done deal similar to this one.

You lose all credibity when you say, " i dont care about the next five years"

Dumb trade, and adams would be ripped apart for doing that.

When is the last time toronto has won a playoff series, they should probably rebuild, and retain half of matthews and marner

You said it right there... Toronto is making the playoffs... they retained on Kessel (their best player at the time) to kick off their rebuild.

Buffalo isn't making the playoffs for another 6 years with that Skinner contract. Why not maximize the return on Eichel?

Either maximize the return or don't trade him at all if you think you have a chance of making the playoffs during the course of his contract... the pieces you get back aren't gonna do more for you in the next 5 years than Eichel.

Either that or you have a delusionally high trade value of Eichel.
