Cover bases and sell? - FEEDBACK

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2016-17 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 5, 2017
Published: Feb. 5, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Shake up from the ground up
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Bailey, Josh
Additional Details:
Stan Bowman isn't afraid to mortgage. He takes another run by adding Josh Bailey on a career year.
2.
PIT
  1. Seidenberg, Dennis
Additional Details:
PIT needs another d-man on the back end for another cup run. Seidenberg is having a great year on a team friendly contract. PIT doesn't even sacrifice a roster player to solidify their back end.
3.
CBJ
  1. Chimera, Jason
Additional Details:
CBJ is another team in need of a veteran presence for a cup run. Chimera played 1/3rd of his 1000 game career with Columbus and still has the wheels and ability to bury the puck in the back of the net. Milano was nearly traded at the draft to New Jersey and the Islanders would have an interest in bringing the native boy home.
4.
EDM
  1. Hamonic, Travis
Additional Details:
EDM leaked last season that Hamonic requested a trade and we're willing to part with Taylor Hall. This package is similar in terms of value if not a small discount for a Top-2 RHD on a team friendly contract.
5.
MIN
  1. De Haan, Calvin
  2. Strome, Ryan
  3. 2017 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
The Wild get better on the back end while acquiring a center in Strome with similar capabilities as Coyle. Strome needs a fresh start and a winning team in Minnesota could be a perfect remedy.

I don't think the Wild really need a 4th top-4 LHD. Coyle's cap hit is too hard for the Wild to give up. Trade isn't bad value wise (overpay by NYI), just not a need for MN.

Maybe the Blackhawks would give up Pokka for Bailey, but Ryan Hartman has been more productive than Bailey at 5v5 this year (Hartman's 5v5 P/60 is 2.00, while Bailey's is 1.84). There's no way Chicago would trade Hartman for Bailey, let alone with Pokka as a kicker.

I can see Siedenberg going to Pittsburgh, but not for Guentzel. Desperate as the Penguins are for a decent roster Defenseman, they aren't going to give up a 22-year-old who's 1st in the AHL in P/Gm among guys with over 30 games. Also, it's untrue that the Pittsburgh "doesn't even sacrifice a roster player," in this trade, as Guentzel is not only in the NHL right now, but has put up 8 points in 13 games playing in the Penguins' top 6.

While the Blue Jackets will be looking for pieces to add for a Playoff run, they are probably not desperate to alter a Forwards corps that's been clicking from top to bottom this season. They wouldn't disrupt that to add Chimera, who'd probably be their #12 Forward, and they definitely wouldn't part with a 20-year-old former 1st-rounder for the opportunity.

When it was leaked that the Oilers were willing to part with Taylor Hall for something centered around Hamonic (which most everyone in the media agreed was an overpayment on Edmonton's part), it was because they had a glut of talented Forwards and no RHD. Now, the Oilers have fewer top-flight Forwards and a quality RHD; as such, they're not nearly desperate enough to give up a 21-year-old 1st line Forward and a 22-year-old top Defensive prospect for a top pair RHD.

Even if Minnesota believed that Strome would turn it around with them, they are a win-now team, who would not say goodbye to their 2nd-best natural winger for a reclamation project with 1.30 5v5 P/60 over the last two years, a new #6 Defenseman, and a 3rd.

Not to mention the fact that, through the expansion draft, you immediately lose Hartman or Pokka anyway.

Guentzel is a roster player, and he's exempt from the Expansion Draft to boot. He could be a 50 point winger as early as next year skating next to Crosby or Malkin, and he's locked up for another 2 years at less than 800k a season. In a 1-for-1 trade this is robbery.

While Bailey would be a good fit with the Hawks, he isn't for that price. Guentzel is going to be an impact player next season, and if he's still eligible, might make a run at the Calder next season. Not even close to what it'll cost for him. Columbus won't try and gear up for a Cup run, since they'll have a handful of years when they're competitive like this season. Although the price for a defenseman is at an all-time high, this is still a huge overpayment. Draisatl is producing like a beast, and Nurse is going to be good player pretty soon. Minnesota trade isn't as bad, but still not good either.
