Can we keep the team together?

Created by: brady_t12
Team: 2017-18 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 6, 2017
Published: Feb. 6, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If the Caps make it past the second round this year, I'd imagine guys like Alzner and Oshie are a little more interested in sticking around another few seasons. Orpik trade will need tweaking for sure. Grubauer is lost to expansion.

Doesn't have to be with Colorado, just a loose concept of a trade to get Orpik's cap hit off the books.

Would you take on 5.5 million for two seasons for a first round pick in the 22-30 range plus a B-level prospect?

I like the idea... makes sense... I just don't know if teams are willing to take that on

Orpik has been at his best since being in a Caps jersey, so moving him won't be that much of a problem anymore. I just don't see Alzner, Oshie and especially Kuzy signing that low.

I think Kuznetsov will definitely be under 7 million, but a little closer to 6-6.25. This really is banking on the 3 of them specifically taking less than they could get in an open market. Yes I know Kuznetsov is an RFA, but we really don't want to go to arbitration for him...

Orpik is playing well for a bottom pair defenseman, but getting paid top pair $$$. Would much rather see a cheaper alternative next year
