Have no idea why the heck you put Jonas brodin, Jared spurgeon on here. They aren't being asked to waive, neither is Zuccarello.

Like i get it, it's a list but still very clearly shows people don't watch wild. Jared spurgeon, & jonas brodin are two of the top dman in the NHL. Zuccarello is coming off an amazing season, & specifically wanted Nmc for these reason

By the way Guerin made it clear he's not going to disrespect players by asking them to waive .

This may just be a hot take but I think EK65 may waive and end up going to Seattle. He was very vocal a little while back about not wanting to go through a rebuild and I think it's very difficult for San Jose to avoid one now.

If I'm Seattle I don't take him even if he is available. He's 31... he's past his prime and getting paid 11.5M for the next 6 seasons.

I like EK but he's not worth 11.5M until he's age 37. I think he'd get under 7M on a 6 year contract if he was in free agency this season.

Depends on the package they get since SJ would probably have to add something. Also plenty of players (especially defense) play well into their mid-late 30's. They will need a team leader and PPQB.

Obviously the two guys they are talking about are Parise and Suter. I think any readers would arrive at that conclusion. But all the reports I have seen have said “two will be asked” without naming the two. So I followed what has been said already.

If players waive NMC for the draft, does it permanently remove the NMC from their contract or just for the draft?

I think it would be shrewd move if Francis went for “win now” team. Dunno what it would cost. Last time I asked about Karlsson from Sharks fans, they expected positive return, but very small. Some said they would do Subban for Karlsson straight up.

If players waive NMC for the draft, does it permanently remove the NMC from their contract or just for the draft?

Yes. It is unlike waiving for trade, which could be one-time thing.

For expansion draft, once you waive, that clause is gone forever.

No thats not true, you choose exactly what you waive for, and if you are traded to another team/selected in the draft you now keep the NMC

You make amendments to your contract and the league evaluates each contract. If they view your NMC as surviving afterwards, they will say player must be protected.

                        Just for the draft

                        That is not quite right.
This is not like a player waiving once for a trade to pass.
They have to waive the clause altogether.

If a player signs an amendment this week that waives for next month, but that NMC kicks back in next season, the NHL would rule that contract as one with NMC protection and say it needs to be protected.
It would be the same as any player that did not have NMC this year, but has NMC next year.

EK65 won’t be asked I don’t think. Vlasic should be but stated publically he has no plans to leave and I don’t think he realizes he’s bad. Not that the sharks have anyone to protect anyways but we could go 8-1 if he did

No, a player with a NMC has full control over what they waive for and when. For example Lucic already waived his NMC for the upcoming expansion draft so that Calgary can protect another player instead. That does not mean Calgary can just go and trade Lucic though, he specifically only waived for the expansion draft.

If it is in the contract that a NMC will return (or first appear) for 2021-22 season, he has to be protected.

Oh, I'm sorry. I must have misread what you were saying.

I thought you were saying that a player could waive NMC for rest of 2020-21 season (ie, expansion draft) and reclaim their NMC clause for 2021-22 season. If their contract were amended that way, it would be treated the same as any player who has NMC first appearing in 2021-22. And they would need protection.

With Lucic, if he waives for expansion, he would be waiving 2021-22 NMC protection. Not 2020-21.

I am fairly certain he can waive specifically for the expansion and still have the clause for 21-22. If not can you show me the part of the CBA that says its gone for the year?

It is my understanding that they can waive NMC for 2020-21 to be put on waivers for purpose of buyout....or waive for 2021-22 and stay on roster.
I will try to dig out the specific language when I get a free minute

Ok well when Lucic was traded to Calgary originally his NMC was instantly placed back into effect despite him waiving it to be traded. Again I am fairly certain you can choose what you waive your NMC for and it is not as simple as "oh you waived it that means we have a year to trade you"

                        That is true for trades.

But for expansion draft, the league has to go through every contract and determine if each have NMC protection for 2021-22. They then will release a list of players exempt from expansion draft due to the clauses in their contracts. To “waive” in this instance, a player has to sign an amendment to the contract that permanently alters that deal (no impact on Salary/AAV). Once that is done, they can be removed from exempt list.

Treated very differently than a trade.
