You can just send JvR, Patrick, 1st, 2nd to Detroit instead!

It's an excellent building plan. JVR is a nice player to have for 2 seasons even if he's overpaid by about $2 million. Patrick is a no risk high reward player in the deal. Along with 2 valuable draft picks. There's no lose to any team in that deal except the Flyers. It's a silly deal for the Flyers as it's a lot of arm twisting to an expansion team that very well takes JVR on his own merits.
