They literally bought out Suter to be able to protect Dumba and you trade him away for scraps

The Dumba move was to relieve more cap space in the 2nd and 3rd year. Have you seen him play Def?...Total liability! I would be fine with a player like Patrick or something else back instead as well but I think BG would rather work with the picks at this point and have the extra added relief.

Sorry, first time poster so I didn't add it in any of the comments but my long term outlook was also factoring in a potential bump in cap

It doesn't matter. Legitimate Top 4 defenseman, an offensive RHS defenseman no less, don't grow on trees and are a premium commodity in the league. He's worth a B+ prospect plus a mid 1st at minimum.

One of either Patrick or Frost need to be included as well as additional assets but cannot be the primary piece coming back. Hence the 1st.

And yes, I've seen him play defense. He makes his fair share of boneheaded mistakes coughing up the puck, but no more so than most other offensive minded dmen in the league. It's also not as bad as you're making it out to be. He is literally our most physical dman on roster, and that can't be replaced. Furthermore, with Suter now gone. He's no longer expendable, at least not until Addison is ready to take his spot in the lineup.

We can agree to disagree and I believe your right in that I didn’t probably compensate for him correctly but I also think he is far to overvalued by many people. Yes, I get that he is a RHS hence brining in Barrie. He had one decent offensive year which hardly makes up for his defensive woes which far outweigh any positive he brings on the offensive side of his game. And to the point that he is our most physical defender…that doesn’t say much. He is undersized and to busy puck watching to actually clear anyone from the front of the next. Again…IMO, I’d rather get out from under his overvalued contract as well and use that additional cap space to bring in more physicality and defensive sound players on 1-2 year deals before we get obliterated with this cap hit. We also have Spurgeon who is RHS.

Thanks for your replies…again new at this. Just like the conversation and sparking some discussion.

No problem, discussion is essential for improving ourselves. Be aware there are plenty of trolls out there, but for the most part the community's a decent bunch.

Quick note, use the quote button to reply to comments. Otherwise people won't be able to know you responded unless they're following the thread. You and/or they will receive a notification if a comment is quoted or new comment is posted in a followed thread.

Finally, it's not so much that Spurgeon is still there on the right so much as there's a massive hole in our top 4 now with Suter gone, and Soucy is not a long-term solution for that top 4. Even with Barrie there we're still lacking a legitimate Top 4 defenseman. Furthermore, Barrie might be better offensively than Dumba but he's even worse defensively. He would only exacerbate the same issues you have with Dumba, and provide very little gain than what we already have in Dumba.
