Moving Pieces for the Playoffs and the future

Created by: matt59
Team: 2016-17 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2017
Published: Feb. 9, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sign Stone at 4,125,000 AAV for 5 years. Much cheaper deal than what Shattenkirk will have. Stone isn't quite on the same level as Shatty, but I'm not too sure if the Rangers can afford to give him 7 million a year for 6-7 years. Remember that Zibanejad will need a raise after this season as well, probably in the 5-6 million range.
Trades
ARI
  1. Girardi, Dan
  2. Lindberg, Oscar
  3. 2017 1st round pick (NYR)
  4. 2017 3rd round pick (NYR)
  5. 2018 2nd round pick (NYR)
  6. 2019 5th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Second rounder serves as payment for Stone. The first, third, fifth and Lindberg are all to pay for Girardi and his albatross of a contract. I don't see any scenarios where the Rangers are successful with keeping him around unless he goes LTIR. No team would take the contract he has unless they were given a ton of picks as in this case.

1. DG won't waive, especially not to go to Arizona.
2. It's silly to keep giving away picks.
3. Across the league, GMs see Stone as a 3rd pair dman maybe 2nd.
4. AV doesn't like Clendening and didn't even play him when Staal was literally puking an hour before the game.
5. I agree kshat will be very expensive, but I don't and many don't think that 1 dman will make this team able to go deep in the playoffs. 2 top 4 Dmen are needed to go deep plus a sniper is needed on offense.
Trouba, Dougie Hamilton, Sami Vatanen, Josh Manson... those are the type of Dmen that should be had at the deadline imo and then buy out DG in summer and try and sign another top 4 dman. Next season will be a hopeful cup team.
I'm not trying to knock your trade, but Gorts and the Rangers need to stop trading away first round picks even if it's to get DG contract off the books.

You know Stone is a UFA, why give up so much to acquire a rental. Yea to think Girardi will waive for Arizona...fantasy. Why are CapFriendly GMs so enamoured with Shattenkirk? If your team signs him, you know you overpaid by a lot.
