2017-8 Caps, losing Grubi to Vegas

Created by: timmyv38
Team: 2017-18 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2017
Published: Feb. 9, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Caps can keep most of their core by waiting to re-sign Alzner and Oshie until after the expansion draft.

As for defense, the 6D spot could be filled by almost any decent UFA, or even a dman who gets acquired in trade. I just picked Quincey. Same goes for the backup goalie.

No way caps move that Oprik anchor without giving up major assets

I agree I think you'll have to add at least barber to that deal as Arizona is desperate for young centers/right wingers. Barber gives them a potential mid 6 prospect where vanecek becomes goalie of the future. I think kuzy is given one mill too much and burakovsky is one mill too short. Oshie seems like a tad over paid as well if he wants to win a cup. Not a capitals fan but has vrana looked good enough to be able to take that spot from Connolly/ has Connolly looked good enough for that spot?

Connolly has been amazing on the 3rd line this year for the Caps

Based off last year, Vanecek is plenty. Bickell and Teravainen for a 2nd and 3rd. Datsyuk and a 1st for a 1st and 2nd.

This season, Vrana was underwhelming, while Connolly has been a good 3rd liner. I'd like to see Vrana get another season in Hershey.

You need to look at that in context though, That Datsyuk trade was at the Draft, The 1st that Arizona got from Det ended up landing Ari with Jakob Chychrun.

That doesn't change anything. And even if it did, what about Bickell? That trade is much closer to what an Orpik trade would be.
