Landeskog

Created by: Greed
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2021
Published: Jul. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If the Oilers can get Landeskog, I would be over the moon. Next year is gonna suck, but I think they would be set up long term if this deal can get done. Would have 2 legitimate top6 forward lines, a solid bottom 6 with room for younger players to grow. Defense you can already see the plan of having Broberg move up in a year and Samorukov move up in 2 years. And Skinner is hopefully the backup in a year, and hopefully a starter in three years.

First off giving that term and money to Landeskog would be a huge mistake especially after giving Nuge 8 yrs, Leon, Conor, Nurse, will all need new deals in that timeline plus these players will all need large contracts after their bridge deals expire in that 7 yrs, Yamamoto, JP, McLoed, Bouchard, Broberg, Holloway, Bear these are all guys that are future of this team
Not to mention Ullmark gets more so we don’t have a upgrade in net
McLoeds not ready for 3rd line centre duties, so no upgrade at 3rd line centre
Holloway’s not ready for the NHL
Signing Landeskog to a 8 mil deal not only hurts our chances of winning tomorrow but greatly impacts making this team competitive before Leon and Conor can walk for nothing, maybe before the Kieth trade happened but adding his cap hit makes signing a 8 mil player out of the question as the team still has many needs and not enough cap left to fill them all.

Holloway is ready i think

It would have been nice to see him get into a few AHL games but his thumb injury didn’t make that possible
I’m not convinced he’s ready yet could be the same deal as Yamamoto get recalled after xmas no real reason to rush him he’d have to outright out play someone in camp by a wide margin to start the yr in the show

I have questions on whats the plan long term for Holloway, McLoed’s the future 3rd line centre is Holloway his winger, with Nuge signed for 8 yrs and with the reports that Holland is prepared to go 7 yrs on a UFA top 6 left winger, do they only project Holloway as a 3rd liner? or would it make more sense to go after a Tatar or Hoffman on a short term deal 2-3 yrs then if Holloway forces his way into the top six your only left with a yr or two of a 3-5 mil player on the 3rd line.

I was pretty happy with what Holland has done in his first 2 yrs, we as Oilers fans have had this offseason circled on the calendar since he took over as this was the offseason we finally had cap space to spend but with the Kieth trade it’s shrinking fast, just hope it doesn’t end with a whole bunch of long term bad contracts and if we don’t win in the next 4 yrs we’re fcked. And Holland coasts off into retirement don’t get the feeling he’s managing for a extension or his next job.
