Buch has been *developing*. It's not a career season in the terms of his abilities. He's going to keep improving. Horvat is good don't get me wrong but were better off getting someone who can replace Zibanejad in a year if he'd walk. Idk about Horvat. I like the idea of getting him but it just feels so much like a lateral trade. If we're moving a top 6 player we should go for major contributor like Eichel, Barkov, Lindholm, Stamkos, etc.

Unless the Jets have a deal with a stud RD in their back pocket (unlikely), then they will keep DeMelo if he makes it through the expansion draft. The Jets have three years of Hellebuyck and Scheifele before they get very expensive and if they trade DeMelo for a 2nd then they will be left with just Pionk as the only above replacement level RD and will miss the playoffs.

I have no clue why Carolina would want Schmidt without sending cap back, schmidt is 6M and that 6M could be spent on someone better

I'd also like to hear his explanation. I think it's a deal worth exploring.
