What does this trade accomplish?

Anaheim:
Younger 4C at half price, with control. Cheap speed, scoring, pk in Grabner. Take Klein in order to dump Stoner and Thompson salary.

Rangers:
RD upgrade in Manson. Take on salary from Anaheim. Thompson comes off books (can be replaced by Nieves next year), Stoner can be send to minors for cap savings if need be. I'd also consider trading picks/players to Las Vegas for them to take him.

If you buyout Girardi, protect McD, Staal, Manson, and pay to have LV take Stoner, D can look like some combo of the following next year:
McD Shattenkirk
Skjei Manson
Staal Holden

We're not trading a cost-controlled asset in Manson for a one-season wonder, an ageing D-man we can't keep and a weak 4th liner. This only helps NYR long-term. If NYR come calling for Manson, I would hope that Murray demands Miller or Kreider + NYR taking on a cap dump. It's an overpayment, but we simply have no reason to give him up. He is big-bodied, has a unique skillset, has chemistry with Lindholm and Fowler, and on a dirt cheap contract for now.

Appreciate your opinion...not giving up either of those forwards. Will look elsewhere thanks. The only player that's an improvement in that deal is Manson. Thought NYR were doing a favor, taking cap off hands. Best of luck finding affordable scoring.
