A look at the Sabres without Eichel

Created by: Roysboy72
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 26, 2021
Published: Jul. 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming Jack Eichel is traded in a deal involving mostly picks and prospects, what could the Sabres lineup look like?

Notes:
- LTIR is being used as a holding area for Eichel to simulate him not being on the team because it removes his cap hit
- I really have no idea how much money some of these players are worth, so don’t take the contract cap hit and length as predictions
- Not signing any non-Sabre free agents, too hard to predict free agent signings

I could see Eichel and management disagreeing on his neck right up to October, he gets his surgery and misses the entire season.

Buying out Parise and Suter make it impossible for Minnesota to trade Rossi, Boldy or Addison and still have a 20 man roster in 22-23 thru 24-25.

Vegas re-signing Martinez puts them against the cap. Pretty much eliminates them from trading for Eichel and filling in 20 spots.

Starting to run out of trade partners this year. StL could come up with something....

Yeah, it looks like Buffalo doesn’t want to move Eichel unless it becomes absolutely necessary (makes sense). Kevyn Adams seems to be kicking the can down the road, but for now they’re just hoping a team will overpay for him. Seeing an team that’s already bad selling off their top assets to become even worse feels like a recipe to become a bottom feeder for quite a while, and trading Eichel would be the last nail in the coffin.

And now 3 of those top picks are gone (Risto, Reinhart and Nylander) with Eichel seemingly next in line.
