Description
I like to think Tampa would go for this. They have a player that replaces Johnson on the low. He's becoming a UFA so he won't hurt Tampa's win now plan or cause contract issues. They are still trying to win next season. I see him replacing Blake Coleman.

Korpi on the other hand would be one of the better back ups in the league and IF Vas get hurts they have a solid long term option for the season. They also get him on the low (and still need a goalie)

Both Robinson and Korpi are expiring UFAS.

Jackets get 2 2nd round picks. This is similar to the return Arizona has received for the trades they've made. The extra 2nd is for Korpi and Robinson. Tyler Johnson is a better player than the other guys traded, although his contract is similar. Johnson is still a solid player and will shelter some of the younger Jackets players.

I am not considering any other off season moves for this team. Just this one trade. Jackets would still need to find a goalie.

I'd trade Carlsson and I think Tampa may even give 1st since Johnson has multiple years left on his contract.

I was also thinking Tampa would reasonably throw in a 1st. I'm not sure if they would want Carlsson though. He's not really NHL proven, he's got a low contract but is he the 6D you want going to the Stanley Cup Final? Not sure. Would you do the same trade with 1 1st in 2022 instead of the 2nd round picks?

If CBJ is looking to weaponize cap space (they are) they wouldn't use one of their three retention slots to hold $300k of Robinson's salary.

If the jackets are moving those 2 at half retained for a second , which is fair value for those 2. I’m taking more than another second for the Johnson contract. He’s good but he’s old and getting worse. He’s signed for 3 more years at over 5 million. I’ve suggested taking on cal Foote or Eric cernak in stead of a first. However a first could also be acceptable.

I didn't even realize there was a limit of 3 retention spots. Who else would they trade that requires retention though? I only see Domi. Wouldn't Robinson's retention spot come off the books next season because his contract is expiring?

They'd probably want to keep those slots open until the trade deadline and then retain salary as part of a three-way trade (like what happened in the Savard/Foligno trades).
