Description
This is my crazy scenario where things just go totally whack. Every Canucks fan, rationally or otherwise, is sweating a bit today. Let's say Petey is looking for that big $$ and doesn't really care about staying around.

In that case we suddenly become a candidate to land Eichel. Word is 4 first round assets are required to get the deal done. I don't like the idea of having 0 firsts in the next two years to we'll spread the picks out a bit. I don't know if you want to start talking about moving Podkolzin or Hoglander or something. I think we'd prefer to keep our top 9 relatively intact.

You can roast me for this, whatever. I'm just trying to illustrate the hypothetical. Hopefully it's obvious that this is NOT what I want to happen.

To be honest, I’d rather only give up one or two firsts and give up other assets because 4 first round picks just seem like a lot.

This is a pretty realistic trade regarding Schmidt. I would do it from the Isles prospective.

I love this, sure EP is a very good player but he's not Jack. So MTL pays the Jack price, but doesn't get Jack, then all of those picks go to Buffalo. End of the Day VAN pays a 1st and EP for Jack.

Ideally I'd like Hoglander or Woo too, but I think I''m good with all this.

It kind of works for both parties imo

It's basically EP for $12,000,000 for Jack at $10,000,000 which is actually a really good trade. But, giving up so many 1sts in such a short time hurts. Plus, if this offer sheet doesn't come in, we can just get Petey for like $7,250,000

Sure, but 4 mid twenties or late teens firsts will never be worth Jack Eichel unless you strike gold on a Pastrnak or something, which happens like 1 in every 50 picks. I think Kevyn Adams understands this

They'd need to retain a little more or also take Hickey, but yes I'd do this.

The value is there, but paying a 2nd pair dman 5mil long term in a cap crunch is something im not really interested in. Also with the amount of LD2s available in FA, schmidts value goes down. We could get someone basically as good for a fraction of the cap hit.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. The idea is Schmidt is actually a really good top 4 d man if he can bounce back and we're offering to take Komorav and retain. But I agree with you for sure

Its not this year thats the big worry its the next 2 so taking komarov doesnt help as much. Id rather pay more for more retention but retention for that long doesnt really happen (besides oel of course).

Yeah and the point of moving him is mostly cap related anyway so more retention equates to less utility in making the trade at all

Yeah i dont see nyi as the right trade partners. A team like boston that has cap space and needs a top 4 LHD might work. In fact i really like the fit there with schmidt-mcavoy and
grzelcyk-carlo. It just makes a lot more sense to me.

The big problem is if the habs offer sheets Petersson, it would be a 10m offer sheet (2 1rst, 2nd, 3rd). They will not offering more to not pay the 4 1rst

Yeah, maybe. I just think Canucks happily match anything under $11 million

I do think they match, but they will be in serious trouble and will not beeing able to hadding the depth that they need and the top4 that they need.
