Why? OTT has the cap space and could flip CDH at the deadline for a higher pick

Am I the only hawks fan who wants nothing to do with Saad anymore? He’s a reminder of **** trades and and an even ****tier GM.

Then, why can't Chicago flip him at the deadline for a higher pick?

Since he's an Ottawa native, we might sign him 1 year from now when he's a UFA to be our 6th/7th defenceman.

If that's the case and we were the ones flipping him at the deadline, it would make it less likely that he'd want to play for Ottawa again.

While I agree with this in principal, he'd definitely help this forward group, especially on Toews line. It'd be worth it.

That said, he's not coming back.

While I'd still say it's possible Ottawa would go for it, highly unlikely after today. Buffalo is a much more likely place to ship Cal.

Also, I’m starting to get nervous for the hagels, kurashevs, and Reichels of the world right now. These moves for guys like Johnson, McCabe, and Jones are forcing the youth out. You build through the draft. Stan is losing his mind trying to save his job AND keep fans distracted from the assault scandal.

I wouldn't worry about that, Hagel and Kurashev definitely figure into next season's lines. Reichel is probably gonna get a sniff and go to the Rock for some learnin'. I thought Ian Mitchell and Nic Beaudin would actually thrive at the NHL right away, low and behold it was Kalynuk who took to it. If Mitchell and Beaudin spend the majority of the year as Rockford's top pairing, all the better.

McCabe is a great add, as is Jones... In a vacuum. Both overpaid, but such is life in the UFA market. The assets for the latter though, are trash. Stan is also trash. He knows he's very likely to get canned once the assault case rolls out, so he's clearly salting the earth for one last run to lay claim to before he's out the door. So it goes. Let's hope it works out.
