You really think Hughes is going to take 8M when Makar signed for 9M and Heiskinen signed for 8.5M. Probably a 9M x 8 contract for him and Pettersson wont sign short term. Expect another 9M x 8 contract for him. And then the cap trouble really starts when Vancouver have to resign Boeser next season and Horvat the year after that.

Biggest mistake was acquiring OEL. Huge cap hit for 6 years.

All chatter is saying Petey will take something similar to Barzal as a bridge deal, and rumours had it that Quinn liked the Chabot deal 8M x 8. Quinn has defensive issues no matter how great his offense is, Makar is better, and Miro is much better defensively.

Get an extra 3 M next year with the Lu recapture being over, and hopefully the year after that the flat cap is over.

I agree Hughes is not worth more than 8M, but he just watched other young Dmen sign for more, so obviously he's probably looking for a little more.

As a Canucks fan what do you think Vancouver will do if a team offer sheets Pettersson to a 10.2M x 8 contract, compensation 2 first round pick, second and third. Do you think they match that? Would be pretty interesting to see what they do.

They will match anything, if Petey is poached on an offer sheet Benning will have to hope chanting Fire Benning will be all that happens. Canucks fans are nuts.

After the season that Hughes just had—his market value is trending downwards, not upwards. This might be his best opportunity to lock himself in at a high salary for 7-8 years, rather than to be perceived as Tyson Barrie 2.0 after a bridge deal.

I think the Hughes and Pettersson deals are fair.

Hughes was comparable to Miro and Cale last season, however he was not this year. Marker was runner up for the Norris, Quinn was no where near that level so the two aren't overly comparable right now.
I've heard some radio hosts that have connections to teams, agents, scouts etc, say they think Hughes might sign a bridge in the 5's, others say 6's. 8 sound about right for an 8 year extension.

I do think next year things start to get more complicated with Boeser and the year after will be a nightmare with Horvat, Miller, Hoglander and Rathbone.
