Description
The main piece here is obviously the Dvorak trade. Rangers overpay for him to get Arizona to eat half his cap hit. On top of the players they get, the Yotes get a high draft pick for each year that they retain salary to help their rebuild. It gives the Rangers a very cost controlled C to fill a need.
The trade with Vegas is based on speculation that they want Strome. So they get Strome with an extension in exchange for Smith to make the cap work for VGK (and give them a bit extra space) and the Rangers get a future 1st as well.
The Rangers use their cap space to take on Koskinen's bloated contract for a year for good pick.

This gives the Rangers 3 solid forward lines they can roll as well as that physical presence in the bottom 6/4th line that they've been talking about. Dvorak also gives them a long term C option at a steal of a price to re-sign all their upcoming RFA's. It also gives a fallback plan if Mika can't be re-signed.

Lafreniere will be 1st line LW from game 1.
Kreider will be part of a more physical 3rd line.
Laf/Zib/Kaako
Panarin/Chytil/Kravtsov
Kreider/Goodrow/Gauthier
Blais/Rooney/Reeves ( or whomever R. Strome brings back in trade)

You do not want Koskinen as a goalie. He's better off heading to Buffalo or Arizona. Guaranteed basement team . Lol

It makes the cap work for Vegas, who has an expendable winger after trading for Dadanov and has had interest in Strome. Also given Smith and Gallant's history together it makes sense. It also gives the Rangers a stop-gap top 6 RW if either Kakko or Kravstov aren't ready yet. (I would have preferred Buch on a 1-year deal for that role but at this point that is neither here nor there)

As a backup on a fairly defensive team he should be fine. I wouldn’t trust him as a G1, but as a guys to play 20-35 games I’m good with it

Ik he sucks lol, but NYR needs a backup if they trade Georgiev and EDM could pay them to take Koskinen off their hands. If he's still terrible as a backup the Rangers have Kinkaid to go with.

that's likely the case yes, but in this scenario the Rangers wouldn't have a true top line but instead 3 great lines that are interchangeable at even strength with a grinding 4th line.

There isn't really any need for Dvorak if Rooney/Gauthier will get knocked off, and then whatever Strome gets back in return.

There is if Mika wants $9-10 mil which we can’t afford. Then we need another top 6 center.

Dvorak is damn good and at 50% retained for 4 years I doubt Arizona does this.
