Jets can add as many minimum deals as they want. Issue is that without other roster moves involving players making 2M+, they will have to move a minimum contract player to the Moose (who will need to pass through waivers) for each contract they bring in.
Niku doesn’t impact the cap, as he can be placed on the Moose (after clearing waivers).
Beaulieu would also need to clear waivers, which is a risk, but the reward if he is sent to the Moose is the Jets only have a 125k cap hit if he clears, or get the full contract off the books if he’s claimed.
Cash is the other consideration. If the new player signs a one way deal, putting them on the Moose costs the 750k. A two-way deal would make more sense (which is what Toninato has for 21-22).
If the Jets bring in another min vet on a 1-way, I think Toninato is a real risk of starting the season on the Moose. He’d need to significantly outplay the other 4th line options.
