Breakout seasons

Description
This is a exciting year for the youth and players in contract years. I could see a huge jump from some role players too (Maltseve, Murray). The Avs have drafted and developed enough that if those young players do take the next step it won’t be a big free agency signing year just a next man up type of scenario. The only big move I could see is trading for a middle 6, have not replaced Donskoi or Saads contributions, I wouldn’t mind a Lacroix type of trade to get a more reliable playoff performing second liner. At the end of the NCAA season I could see Helleson getting his shot, if he continues his progress this should be a solid season.

I don't see LA trading Brown. He has earned the right to play out his career and retire in LA. I expect him to get another two-year deal after his current one expires to line up with the expiration of Kopitar's current contract.

I think Newhook’s play will make it so the Avs don’t have to make a TDL deal and if they did it would be to create another scoring line. Donato, while interesting is a waste of resources. COL legitimately has 9 candidates including 2 former 1st rd picks for 3 4th line spots, throwing more money at that is a waste. Also I don’t see Girard and Makar playing together.

Agree about the depth but I don’t think it’s 9 candidates, I would like to see JL foudy in a handful of games and let bowers finally get his shot but It’s all conjecture until the injury bug hits and your counting on guys who have no nhl experience going into the playoffs…

oh and Makar and Girard played together before, usually shuffles throughout the year anyway it’s never set in stone pairings

Yeah 9 is taking some guys into account that aren’t going to be there Megna, Matthau, etc… but they HAVE to see what they have in guys like Kaut and Bowers.

As for Girard and Makar yeah they will shuffle through them but generally speaking imo those are the 2 guys I would expect to only play together when they were behind. Personally I want to see Byram force his way into the top pairing, then but G and Toews together they were real good together last year and Murray and EJ becoming the PK, drone duo.

I don't think Helleson sniffs the NHL roster this season. The guy has taken his time developing (like intentionally doing it the right way). Barron would get looks before him imo
