Not to even talk about his QO, which will come around at 6,7M next year. Matching would put the Habs in serious cap trouble

They should have waited for Suzuki to offer sheet. Aho and Suzuki down the middle would be killer. Now M.D needs to sign Suzuki So they can't offer sheet him.

I would have offersheeted 4.1Mx2 with a 5.5M QO. I agree 6.1M and that compensation makes the choice easy.

The 6M is too high but with CAR flexibility this year it’s the right move. Signing him to 4 years is a bigger risk.

Yep but there’s no room up the middle in CAR this year. If he plays with Troch and Necas and the coaching staff invest in him maybe he’ll turn it around and show some results. There’s no way he moves Troch out of 2C unless he gets hurt.

Nah not really. Like I said if you actually put talent around him and coach him it’s very likely he’ll put results up. You guys drafted him third and then jerked him around and discarded him essentially. Worth the risk. Worst case we lose a first rounder that’s probably towards end of round. Best case we’ve gained a high upside forward. Sure he’s isn’t worth 6M but it’s for a year and puts MTL in a bind. They shouldn’t match but their center depth is absolutely decimated now.

Bolts Avs and Vegas are probably easily in top 3 of league. Canes are in next tranche of teams with isles caps pens Bruins leafs etc. not really sure where they got worse or you’re getting the idea that they’ll be a bottom 10 team in the league. Not saying there’s no way that happens but it would be due to injuries since the core of the team is still very solid.
