Isles decline not because of value, but because of need. They don't have a replacement for Mayfield (who not only is a top 4 dman on the team, but is on a very good contract which helps the isles tremendously)

they currently have a hold for a 2nd pair LHD. The last thing they need is to extend that to the 2RHD as well.
