Ilya Sorokin - .920 sv%, 2.17 gaa 1g 2a 3p - HOT TAKE

The bottom 4 arent a 2nd and a 3rd pair. They are 2 bottom 4 pairs that are deployed pretty equally and get the same ice time.

Parise isnt the guy people think he will be as age starts to catch up. He will for sure miss some games and golyshev will step in and never look back.

Bellows will be traded before the season for picks or be claimed on waivers. I dont see LL or BT using a roster spot for bellows.

I disagree with your assessment on Parise. We'll have to see how that pans out. I'd love to be surprised and see Salo play more than I expect though

Hes already 23 so its not a 18yo rookie. And i think he has the talent to grab the job in camp and run with it. I hope im right. As for parise and golyshev i hope im right also. If golyshev performs like i expect him to id rather the 37yo not play well and the 26yo to play well than the opposite.

Salo or Gus will be in the opening night lineup. I hope it’s Salo, but I wouldn’t mind Gus either.

I'm so biased when it comes to Parise. He's the reason I became a hockey fan. 2010 Olympics and I was hooked from that point forward. All that being said, I really do believe he will score 20-25 goals this year if he gets the PP2 time I expect that he will. I don't think he's lost *that* much of a step. He's pissed about what happened in Minnesota and I can't blame him. Very happy he's here (especially not at a $7.5m cap figure). I expect him to make a world of a difference on that 3rd line compared to a Leo/Ross/Bellows/MDC etc.

Could I see 65-70 games as "load management" for the playoffs? Maybeeeee - but I don't think he's sharing half the season with Golyshev.

I hear that, but i dont see any scenario where golyshev doesnt get ~20 games (assuming hes the one that steps in for parise) bc of injury/load management. I think once he gets his chance hes not going to be able to be taken out, he will be playing so well.

I agree, injuries aren’t inevitable. I can see a situation where injuries force Trotz to break up the 4th line if Golyshev runs with the opportunity.

Theres no way in hell trotz is breaking up the 4th line. Trotz would rather bench parise than martin if he had to choose.

He has scratched Martin before but it was for Ross. Trotz also been benched Martin a lot last season during games, I just think it’s possible. I wouldn’t mind Golyshev taking a spot away from Parise if he earns it, i just don’t see it happening.

Its true martin doesnt play every shift the 4th line does but trotz loves the identity line. They start every game. Also i doubt casey signs that deal without some kind of assurance that the identity line will stay together.
Another thing is the style of play. Bailey isnt the 4th line grinder that BT loves. The only guys i could see playing on the 4th line are in case of injury and its uncle leo or ross the boss.

Cizikas knows that the identity line isn’t going to last forever. Father Time is going to hit Martin + clutter hard and they don’t have too much longer as contributing NHLers.

Trotz always says that Bailey is a Swiss Army knife , which isn’t true but that’s what Trotz thinks. Before the isles acquired Pageau there were times where Bailey got a shift with Cizikas and clutter. Leo is a decent 4th liner but Ross might be the worst hockey player I’ve ever watched , don’t think there’s any difference between him and the 6’5 grinder at your local beer league.

I would bet Golyshev is next in line to get a shot if there is an injury so hopefully he proves himself and forces Trotz to sit a vet. He’s not a kid so hopefully this is like another Toews/Hickey situation

Yes casey knows it will come to an end. But he dudnt sign that contract after the last game of the identity line. I could see clutter retire after this year or sign a 1 or 2 year deal. When martins contract expires is the very latest that line will be together.

Ross the boss is an isles legend. Unless youre saying hes better than gretzky that man is getting disrespected. Leos puck skills are worse than mine. Hes gotten a lot better on cutting down on the penalties and playing the role that hes suited for but he shouldnt be an everyday player on any team (certainly not NYI).

I hope he is next in line, and him being 26 makes me hopeful trotz will give him a fair shot (though it didnt happen with aho so idk). I look forward to him getting a shot and never looking back. We need these 3/4 round picks to make an impact. Thats how you get cheap talent which every contender needs.
