He was most certainly touted as a generational talent. Ill tell you 1 thing though, you described slaf perfectly "he was best at time in a so-so draft year"

Islanders trade
Kerfoot is a solid middle 6 player whos versatile but his point production is extremely unsustainable. He doesnt drive play well and is a below average finisher. Hes also making 3.5m which doesnt help his case. So what youre suggesting is the isles give the leafs a get out of cap hell free card and take another middle 6 player (when they already have 8 middle 6ers on the roster). Not just that you want NYI to give up a solid 2nd pair big physical RHD making just under 1.5m. When those defensemen are highly valued leaguewide. Johnston is a net 0 as hes useless but doesnt count against the cap when buried. Judging by the kulikov deal holl could be had for future considerations or something close. So NYI gets a redundant piece, downgrades at RHD and takes on an extra 3m while giving a conference opponent 3m in free cap space. The isles dont need to be getting marginally better in the middle 6, they need a legit high end piece. If thats not available then they have 0 need to upgrade at F.

No it wouldnt. Devrincat will need a new deal next year and who knows if hes interested in signing long term. Plus after what debrincat just went for (7, 39, and a 3rd) dobber is worth significantly more than that.

Its true WPG shouldnt do this but its really 2 assets. Vesalainen at this point is basically worthless.

The Trade That Makes Sense
This doesnt help NYI at all. They dont need a middle 6 C and at wing they also have way too many middle 6ers. Not to mention what physical top 4 defensive dmen go for nowadays. Also why would NYI willingly help TOR out of a cap crunch especially with how valuable cap space is rn, while at the same time creating another hole with the roster? Believing that NYI wants kerfoot is wishful thinking on your part.

They pay Ross 1.1 mill to sit in the press box, AHL players are getting 1 way league minimum contracts. The 1.2 mill was to avoid arbitration where he would have gotten something similar because Bellows had solid rate numbers last season.</div></div>
Ross' 1.1 was to avoid a waiver claim. If they were actually scared about arbitration they wouldve just moved on from bellows if they dont plan on playing him.

Martin, maybe bailey. They might give parise a few games off. I just dont see a scenario where they overpaid him to sit in the press box.

Bailey-Pageau-Palmieri
Martin-Cizikas-Clutter</div></div>
They gave bellows 1.2. I highly doubt he doesnt get regular playing time.

The Matthews line is certainly up there in terms of lines that actually play together consistently, it's not that outlandish of a statement</div></div>
No i dont think its that outlandish. The reason i came on strong is bc i dont think theres any way they are objectively better than COLs line. But they are a top 3 line in the league.
I mentioned a couple of lines that i expect to play together this year. Like the BOS line i think will be paired up again now that they have krejci back at 2C.
The TBL line played a little together and were really good but werent really together. With palat gone now i expect them to play full time barring injuries.
The EDM line i highly doubt will play together

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kster34</b></div><div>Yeah I don’t really value isles fans opinions on nhl best lines unless we’re talking about most boring lines, in which case you guys are experts.
Leafs line has Matthews - hart trophy winner, rocket Richard winner & Marner - led the league in scoring (2nd half), both are first team all stars. Bunting is a great addition as rookie but honestly I could play with those two.
That Av’s line is great, but it is a PP unit; they don’t play together regularly.
Bruins line is really good but they were separated and oiler & bolts lines are PP units too (McD & Drai don’t often play together). Flames has a really good line but 2 of the 3 bolted.
Everyone entitled to their opinion but Matthews, Marner, Bunting are - if not the best - one of the top 1-3 lines in the league; the best imo. Even an Isles fan should be able to acknowledge that</div></div>
Its very telling that the 1st thing you mentioned was the isles. If you think that bc i am a fan of the islanders i cant evaluate hockey bc my team doesnt have a better line then im just wasting my time. Have a good day.
Edit: in order to avoid hypocrisy you should stfu about defense and goaltending

1/ Bunting, Mathews, Marner (arguably best line in nhl)
2/ Robertson (Kerfoot when Engvall is healthy), JT, Willy (Robertson is only forward waiver exempt so he goes, unless he explodes)
3/ ZAR,Kampf, Jarnkrok (shutdown matchup line - ZAR is so good defensively, he has to play here)
3/ Kerfoot( Engvall when healthy), Gaudette, AKN - hopefully energy, tough to play against & occasional goal</div></div>
