He's definitely being overrated if we're talking about adding about adding Yamamoto or Poolparty to the trade. Guy is really good offensively (72 pt pace over 82 game season) over the past two years, but selling the farm for 6 weeks of a rental that you can't really afford to extend is a bad, bad, bad move.

And what if you can extend him?

In 2016-17 you mean. Cause he was headed for 45 points in 17-18 if he playedd the full season

I remember being on here. it was around the time hagelin was traded for tanner pearson. everyone kept saying he was worth no more than a 3rd and everyone wanted him traded for cap space

So because fans wanted him gone for cap space, that makes him worth a 3rd?

And were not talking about 5 years ago. Were talking about now. He is a very underrated player, just like Kappy

But you can't...*If* I could, I'd potentially offer slightly less than the Mark Stone trade, which was Vegas's top prospect (Branny), 2nd, and a bottom 6 roster/fringy NHLer (Lindberg), which is essentially the Holloway+2nd+4th, but again, Stone was extended.

But it's *Not* very possible, that's the thing. As I posted above:

His 72 pts/82 game pace over the past couple of years should push him into the $5.5-6.5 mil per year range (if not higher). Currently, with 14 players signed (not including Rust), they've got $12ish mil for next offseason. Assuming a goaltending upgrade ($4-5 mil), a raise for either Poolparty or Yams ($2-3 mil), that's $13ish mil spent (at cap or above), with only 17 players signed. So zero cap space with 5-6 other players to sign.

Koskinen makes $900,000 more then Griess so there's no reason to retain 50% on Greiss, Edmonton is already making $900,000 on the deal with zero retention.

Both Poolparty and Yamamoto are unsigned RFA's for next year, so don't count as the original $70 mil that I had quoted earlier.
-Start at $70 mil for 14 players
-Sign one of Yam or Poolparty (Whichever you didn't take) ($3 mil)=$73
-Sign goaltender ($4.5 mil)=$77.5
-Sign Rust ($6 mil)=$83.5 mil
-Sign 5 players at league minimum ($3.5)=$87 mil

Math doesn't work.
