These are a couple moved I think are necessary before playoffs to get by the first round. They need a better 3C and backup G. And possibly a big hard-nosed Dman if available.

Why are the Oilers downgrading on Koskinen and paying more for it in the process?

The Ducks will want more for Getzlaf, and I'm not even sure if they'll trade him.

You’re crazy if you think Korpisalo is a downgrade from “let the first shot in every game” koskinen. The same thing happened last season. Korpi is a proven playoff performer.

Korpisalo has 8 good games to his name and is otherwise a genuine downgrade to Koskinen in every viable metric over the past 3 seasons. This isn't an arguable fact. Koskinen has outperformed Korpisalo every season since coming back to the NHL.

I don't trust Mikko all that much either for what it's worth, but for "pRoVeN pLaYoFf PeRfOrMeR" Korpisalo it's an automatic non-starter for me.

I keep seeing everyone says don’t downgrade from koskinen. Who do you consider an upgrade?

My targets next season would be Varlamov or Gibson.

I know the numbers community is down on Gibson right now but ultimately I expect him to bounce back fully this season and to get above form on any other team. Eakins clubs aren't great and the swarm structure he's fond of contributes to more high danger scoring chances against.

I think Varlamov could be had for cheap given the Islanders' cap situation, but that problem extends to the Oilers as well. I'm also not a fan of Tippett not using some of the recent games - the Arizona one specifically - as a chance to gauge what Skinner is at this point in his development, as the term on Smith's deal likely means that Stuart is going to be traded or lost on waivers, both likely for no real return.

Glad to see Gibson as I’ve seen him being knocked a ton on here. The only thing I can think with not starting skinner is he’s trying to keep the ball rolling with wins

I really think it just comes down to Tippett being a really bad coach in the end.

Arizona is destitute at best, we know Koskinen performs at his best when is load is managed, and it was a back-to-back night with Vegas right after. Head-scratching really, but no matter seeing as we won both.

I love koskinen as a back up. Oilers definitely need a true starter though. Regular season may be going ok but playoffs are a different beast for sure.
