Trading Buchnevich at this year’s trade deadline would have been extremely disruptive to the team to say the least, after playing with the team all season long. While losing Buch to free agency without any compensation would have been a complete disaster.

Yes Blais and a 1st round pick would have been more ideal. But Blais and a 2nd round pick when at the time Drury made the trade, was better than waiting to trade Buchnevich in the hope of getting more in compensation.

Drury is a joke of a GM and failed in his first ever trade but at least the team that Gorton put together seems to be gelling now

This IS Gorton's team lol. Drury just added scrubs like Nemeth and Goodrow to it, and they're just bodies so the team doesn't have another PR disaster like when Dolan was embarrassed and lost $250K bc player safety made a bad call.

Gorton built this team, and all Drury did was give Buch's extension to a couple of big bodies and "grit" with "veteran leadership." When Drury brings in talent, I will be impressed. Or when he's able to retain it (see: burning Krav).

Also, I've never been a Buch lover. I was a proponent of trading him if it meant getting Eichel back in the summer. But to trade a top 6 guy for gritty pylons is stupid.

TL;DR - this team is Gorton's vision finally come to fruition, just with a couple of nobodies (Goodrow, Nemeth) in place of Buchnevich. I give Drury 0 credit for any of it.
