no value for 4th leading scorer last year. So the leafs wouldn't be able to afford Miller after his contract runs out, so they get him for 1 season. Then it's really Boeser and a rental for Marner. Not even close if you think the leafs would do that. Boeser is about 1/2 the player Marner is.

Not no value. He definitely has good value. When you factor in that he makes 11 million a season his value drops. Is he the guy you wanna commit that much money to? I'd say there are only a few guys in the league I'd wanna spend 11 mil on and Marner wouldn't be one of them. Boeser + Miller combined make 11 million. Both of them are border line all star level players. For instance though at 5.25 for the remaining two seasons on Miller's contract he is more valuable than Marner. Now obv Marner is younger and has a lockin contract but you get the point about salary in a hard cap era. Boeser and 2 3rd might be a more realistic deal. You downgrade in player but you get cap flexiblity to fix other holes in the team. Prob around 4 mil relief.
