Pens vs Montreal Takeaways

Created by: NoWah49
Team: 2021-22 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 15, 2021
Published: Dec. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First off, Nick Suzuki is hot garbage. Whoever said he's the next Bergeron needs their brain checked. There was this one powerplay where Drouin made the perfect pass to him in the slot and he 360 dished it right into the boards (he was looking for Caufield). THEN, Drouin gets it behind the net again and makes another perfect pass to Suzuki in the slot, who passes it right into the boards AGAIN. Overrated as hell. Then again, the Habs don't look like they're playing with any passion, no one really looked good.

suzuki just got overrated, just like caufield and romanov. it happens to all habs prospects. still a good player just not a 1c. maybe someday.

When you have the luxury of watching Crosby and Malkin dominate from the beginning of their careers, you tend to get a skewed perspective. Most players have growing pains, especially on bad teams, and take time to reach their potential.
Suzuki's doing fine for a player drafted outside the top 10 who was acquired through trade. If he was going to be a point per game player and do everything right at this stage of his career, he would have been drafted higher and he wouldn't have been traded.

sure, he's doing well in consideration of where he was drafted, but I'm talking about how Habs fans view him. You're right, I've been blessed with Sid and Geno, but even they go through rough patches (although it may be hard to believe). I just don't see him being the 1C if Montreal ever wins a cup soon

Most fans have a high opinion of their own prospects, Montreal is hardly unique in that regard, just perhaps more vocal.
Like it or not, he's the 1C by default until there's a challenger for the position. Koivu, Plekanec, Desharnais, Danault, etc., while all good players in their own right, were in similar situations.
Montreal has failed to acquire and develop an elite 1C, but they've all had windows where they performed as such. Maybe Suzuki changes that, maybe not, but he'll still be a good player and he will have his time.
At this age, on this team, you have to look more at the positives. The good gets better while the bad decreases. That's part of a player's development.

I quite like that trade for the Nucks, but think Zucker's cap hit is just too high.
I'd swap him for Aston-Reese and still take the trade.
