Most fans have a high opinion of their own prospects, Montreal is hardly unique in that regard, just perhaps more vocal.
Like it or not, he's the 1C by default until there's a challenger for the position. Koivu, Plekanec, Desharnais, Danault, etc., while all good players in their own right, were in similar situations.
Montreal has failed to acquire and develop an elite 1C, but they've all had windows where they performed as such. Maybe Suzuki changes that, maybe not, but he'll still be a good player and he will have his time.
At this age, on this team, you have to look more at the positives. The good gets better while the bad decreases. That's part of a player's development.
