Solutions From Within

Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 12, 2022

Description
Might be a stretch, especially with the team being in Canada and Archibald's vaccine status still unknown, but per Jim Matheson, Josh Archibald "was cleared in late December for exercising with heart monitor until middle of this month. Doctors will see how he gets through that test, and Oilers will go from there." Source: https://twitter.com/jimmathesonnhl/status/1481297612380778502

Similar story for Stalock, although I don't see him in the NHL this year.

Dylan Holloway has also started practicing with the team, and was on a line with Draisaitl prior to being added to the Covid list. Assume that if he has no lingering Covid effects, he'll be back soon and sent to the AHL for some games. If he looks good, he could be with the Oilers in a couple months.

If Koskinen doesn't stabilize ahead of the deadline, I'd imagine he's either traded or sent to the minors. Internal solution is Skinner, with some trade options being Fleury, Georgiev, Allen, etc. A lot rides on Smith staying healthy and returning to last year's form. Based on Holland's press conference, I think this is the team's hope.

With this forward lineup, they're one solid LD away from having a fairly competitive roster. My ideal targets would be Brayden McNabb or Vladislav Gavrikov, neither of which would be overly likely. More realistic options would be de Haan, Leddy, Giordano, Edler, Kulak, etc.

Congrats this is my favourite post for an oilers team in awhile. Didn’t do anything drastic letting the problems correct themselves internally. You listed a few options on left d could target and leddy to me makes the most sense. Cost should be reasonable has a load of experience and is on a team we have seen multiple dealing between.

Thanks brother. I personally think the team is somewhere between their 16-5 start and their 2-9-2 slide. They should make playoffs this year without needing to make 10 trades. I think a few coaching adjustments, players getting healthy, and smaller tweaks can set them up for a run, and then come playoff time anything can happen.

I’ve been saying it for awhile making any big trade right now or at deadline makes zero sense when sooo many of the questions around the team just needs more time to sort itself out and gain experience. Make a big splash now then what watch our downfall be the result of half the team being put back on covid protocol? That’s just too likely to risk accelerating the process.
