It's entirely a strategic choice. When you have a lot of good penalty killers you don't need your star blocking shots.

Talking about team performance doesn't help your case with Matthews lol.

Difference is McDavid was still the best player on the ice at all times in the Playoffs. Matthews looked good but there's no comparison between him and McDavid. That's because nobody can be compared to McDavid right now.

Marner is not even in the same ballpark.
