Pinning your hopes onto a goalie who hasn't been good for several seasons. He'll definitely do well behind that terrible defence the Oilers have.

Holtby has great eyebrows. I'd get him for that reason alone.

My feeling is that Holland will ask about MAF but won't like the ask, so he'll check down to a less expensive veteran starter. (He wouldn't pay the 1st + Samorukov for a full year of Kuemper, so I highly doubt he'll pay a similar value for a few months of Fleury).

MAF is going to be so expensive to acquire. Agree with you there.

And he'll spin the tires until McDavid asks for a trade this summer. And when he gives him 3 destinations who have limited cap space it will be so painful. The Oilers are the 2nd worst run organization in hockey. Behind only Buffalo.

This is a deadline I’d like to see.very limited action. Moving out kosk in my opinion has more to do with him and allowing him a break away from the fan base that is very toxic towards him. I don’t mind the replacement here given it’s just to finish up the year and really evaluate the goaltending in the offseason.

You Oilers fans really gotta GIVE UP on the idea that we are gonna give u something for Koskinen

1- why are we even acquiring another goalie right now?
Our season is over, it’s pointless to give up any asset unless the player we’re getting will be part of our future- and there’s NO CHANCE that Koskinen is

2- he’s a cap dump at this point
And if u guys wanna dump him on us, or ANYONE, you’re gonna have to pay a decent asset to get the deal done.
Otherwise, there’s just no incentive for anyone to do u guys the favor & take the Cap off your hands

I'm not convinced Holtby is the answer either, but I don't think the difference between Holtby and Fleury is "2nd worst run organization" vs "astute management", which appears to be how you're framing this.

Career playoff save percentage
Holtby: .926
Fleury: .912

Past 4 years playoff save percentage
Fleury: .920
Holtby: .917

Past 3 years playoff save percentage
Fleury: .914
Holtby: .910

I don't think the gap is necessarily that big. Both are capable of being difference makers between the pipes, both have plenty of playoff experience, both have lifted the Cup.

One is far cheaper to acquire and is more easily traded (MAF has a 10-team NTC and rumor has it he may not accept a move to Edmonton anyhow), so I expect that's the route Holland takes.

McDavid is not going to demand a trade in the summer. That's a wet dream that Toronto fans have frequently, but wishing it won't make it happen.

1. Because all your goalies are injured right now. You currently have an ECHL goalie backing up Aaron Dell. This isn't exactly about winning, it's about not wrecking your young players confidence completely by playing an ECHL guy down the stretch.
2. Adams didn't demand compensation for taking on Boychuk's contract, this is a player that they can actually use and half of his final years salary has already been paid.

I actually got this idea from a Buffalo fan. It costs basically nothing, not sure what you're so upset about.

There’s ZERO CHANCE this happens
Otherwise, it would’ve been done already!

No. Smith has been injured (he's on IR currently) and Skinner just went on COVID protocol. Edmonton could not have traded Koskinen before now and still can't unless they get another goalie like Holtby.

Ok…. I guess I’ll wait then to say “i told u so”

You guys aren’t the only ones with extra goalies
There were rumors we’d go after a Dallas goalie, bc we’ve had goalie injury issues ALL SEASON
But we didn’t do that either
WHY ?
I guess bc our management disagrees with your assessment of how bad we “need” a competent goalie
Seems we are quite comfortable not ruining our draft position

Now do regular season sv% over the past 4 seasons. Now do you honestly think McDavid is going to wait till his contract is up and he's 29 and leaving his prime to contend for a cup? You have maybe 1 more year but by all intents and purposes. Edmonton has gotten worse and continues to slide and at a certain point I think he's smart enough to see that there is no easy fix here. At that time I bet he asks to go to a contender. I am not saying he's 100% going to go to TO. But I imagine it would be a team he considers along with Colorado, the Rangers and maybe a couple others. When that happens, the return is going to be greatly diminished.

Do I think McDavid is going to wait until his contract is up? No, I think he'll be an Oiler until he retires.

There is no fixing this roster. Massive mistakes have been made and nothing can be done to fix it fast. Your goaltending sucks, your defence is weak. You have several long term bad contracts and your depth continues to be substandard. At some point McDavid is going to get fed up. He deserves better than this and will ask for an opportunity to compete for a cup. That isn't going to be in Edmonton.
