Description
Not entirely sure on Faulk's value, but I have to imagine IF CAR would want to move him it would be for solid forwards or draft picks which is my logic behind the deal.

Weird deal though. 1 year deal and they are burning it in the final 5 games so he is a RFA at seasons end. Don't get it but oh well lol. It's like selecting one extra player without using a draft pick.

Not quite sure what Faulk's value is either but I feel like that package would give Carolina something to seriously consider.

I could see that package maybe as a starting point, but I wouldn't want to see Schenn 4-5 times a year.

Also, Steve Mason is probably not going to come back after the way this season has played out

Yeah I wouldn't want to see that either (Schenn to CAR), but the only other team that makes sense in the West (IMO) would be NSH - maybe Schenn + pick/prospect for Ellis? I doubt CAR would want to see Faulk 4 times a year though so it's a trade off. Also, I agree Mase won't be back, but Neuvirth has been horrendous and I just hope we don't go into next season hoping he is going to carry the load. Mase has been 10x better than him this year so other than the Neuvy extension I'm not sure what else you could be referring to when you say "the way this season has played out."

Allow me to explain my logic. Feel free to disagree as well. Neither goalie started the year great (and that's being nice), then Mason starts 23 of 25 when Neuvirth gets hurt, including the 10 game winning streak. Once Neuvirth came back, he essentially supplanted Mason as the No. 1 (according to starts and playing time, especially in February) and looked like hot **** during February. Not saying that starting mason more often would have made a difference, but I'd be willing to bet thaat they'd be a lot closer to the second wild card spot if Mason played more games in February. Then to top it off, then sign Neuvirth (the inferior of the two if you ask me) to an extension at the trade deadline, and have since then only played him twice.

Based on all of that, I can't see how Mason would want to return. Whether it's the coach doesn't trust him, or Hextall doesn't trust him, or they both like Neuvirth better than him. That's reason enough for him to say, "You don't want me? Fine, I'll leave". Mason is by far the better of the two of them, and if the Flyers can't see that, then idk what this team is going to do with some of these young potential studs (i.e. Sanheim, Morin, Myers, Friedman, Laughton, Leier, Rubtsov, Lindblom, Vorobyov, Hart, Sandstrom, Lyon, Stolarz, etc.) moving forward. It's potentially bad recognition of better players. That's my logic (if you want to call is that haha). I know i went a little of topic, sorry.

I completely agree with you in the sense that if they think Neuvirth is better than there is an issue. The only thing I can think of that makes them want to move on from Mase is he might be asking for a 3-6 year deal and the Flyers don't want to do that. I have a feeling we are going to sign a free agent goalie like Nilsson or something I just don't trust Neuvirth to lead the way with a rookie as the backup - that is not setting this team up for success at all. The other issue I have, and it's with two players, is why would they not move Mase at the TDL or MDZ. Why keep them around just to let them walk. They could have got more out of either of them compared to what Streit got. It seems that Hexy thought they could still make the playoffs so he didn't want to move those guys, but as each day passes it seems more obvious they both won't be coming back. Don't care so much about MDZ but Mase I actually like, and you don't get starting goalies in the NHL for less than $5M after their ELC/bridge deals (i.e. UFAs) unless it is to be a time share or backup (i.e. Neuvirth).

I think Mason will be back with the Flyer's since its a big possibility that Neuvirth gets exposed in the drat and gets selected by the Knights. If the flyers are able to move him, along with Raffl and Read, they can spend a little bit more money on Mason for a three year deal to keep him in Philly (14.25/3) kind of deal - (4.75AAV). If we go into the season with Neuvirth as are started and Stolz as our backup - be prepared to get sauced and dangled at will by the opposition.
