I really don’t see Barrie getting moved. He signed a very reasonable deal after leading all d in points for stability and he likes the fit seems to be well liked in the organization and he just had a child. I get the idea around moving him while I don’t agree I do understand just think it’s unrealistic.

Barrie is the same type of player as Bouchard. Why pay 4.5 million for a guy who can be replaced by someone on an entry level contact on the Power Play? GF% Bouchard is 53% to Barrie's 47%. Barrie's salary can be used somewhere else.

I’m not buying into Bouchard makes Barrie expendable. Yes they share some skill sets but Bouchard is still very young and inexperienced. I’d rather Barrie for at least another year to ensure we don’t have to give Bouchard the Shultz treatment and forced to keep him playing well above his weight class while struggling. It’s nice to have the option to flip back and forth protects Bouchard provides opportunity to be rewarded but also pulled back.

I see your point but then wouldn't it be a better use of money to get a more defensive defenseman and shelter Bouchard on the third pairing while getting first line PP minutes?

I just think the cap space is more likely to come from elsewhere. Keith retirement I’m fairly convinced was part of the trade just the gm can’t come out and say that so we will see.
