I think Malkin takes less.

In terms of Kapanen, I think that you could get a good middle six player/ a prospect and a first for him. Something like Monahan and a first although he may be too expensive. My suggestion is that if the Pens are going to move Kapanen, they should include Zucker in the deal and aquire a guy like Monahan.

^ and im not sure calgary does it. from what i've seen they are looking for a 1C or 1W and kapanen at best right now is a middle 6 winger

Kapanen is a solid top 6 forward. Calgary may not be the right trading partner but someone like Seattle or NJ may work

I think this is wishful thinking. I'd say kapanen's value is a 2nd + 4th. Or trading him for a similar player that has fallen out of favor like Debrusk.

Boston would love Kapanen for Debrusk. That doesn’t help Pittsburgh at all though because Pit needs right wingers. If the Bruins got Kapanen then they would have Kapanen in their 2W and would have Foligno or Haula fill in for DeBrusk

maybe debrusk and a second? guys like heinen and zucker are comfortable on their off wings so i don't think that'd be a huge problem for pit

I wasn't really suggesting that as a trade just of the type of player they could get in return. You're not likely to get a good middle 6 player + a prospect because Kapanen himself is just a middle 6 player and has been falling out of favor in Pittsburgh.

i think the obvious trade involving kapanen is struggling player for struggling player

Yep exactly. It's a textbook situation. Debrusk is just the first one that came to mind for me.

debrusk and gurianov as well. maybe the devils would be interested in kapanen and something for tatar? the devils definitely aren't competing this year and maybe kapanen can find his touch in NJ?

I'd call him a middle 6 rather than a top 6. He's more likely to be a 3rd liner than he is a 1st liner.

If the Penguins want Fluery back at 50% retained, what would Chicago need to add? Salary would be close to a wash.

Chicago would need to take back some cap. Desmith for sure and maybe zucker? I don’t think the pens would do that anyway because they’ll either be content with desmith or trade someone like holtby or halak where the cap works out without much worry
