MacKinnon isn't being traded, Hockey News actually reposting the Hacks at Edmonton Journal as a source of a rumour is the dumbest thing they can possibility do. Dumb leading the Dumb on this one

I still would hate it. MacKinnon is good and hes the best player out of that bunch. Its not the quality of the players its the fact that selling off best players in trades, you never win long term.

Personally I think it's a great trade for both teams. Carolina gets its centerman. Colorado gets its lhd. A really good winger prospect a solid center who's putting up numbers pretty close to Mack and picks. Would be really good for Colorado especially if Patrick works out to be a franchise center. Kind of a reboot but isn't that exactly what they need? Allows them to keep duchene and landy as well. Next season run centers duchene rask Patrick.

Still would hate it.... I like all those Carolina players and its tempting but Avs have Jost and Compher as their 2c and 3c to build with. MacKinnon brings something very special to the table with his speed and skill set. Out of all the players mention no one has the ability like MacK. Not Patrick or Rask. You dont move that sort of weapon when you have 2 blue chip 2 way Cs already in the fold with Jost and Compher.

I think a move like that, Avs take away a big part of their identity that they want to achieve. Speed and Skill.

I see where you're coming from. But one of the worst records in league history would leave me as a fan wanting an identity change.
Anyways! Interested to see what the canes do (I'm a wings fan) this offseason. Because they definitely have the tools to make a splash towards becoming an elite team. Would love to see them utilize them.

They need change but they aren't going to do that by moving a 22 year old Franchise level C away from from the team. They have a lot of good pieces 22 and under in MacK, Rants, Jost, Compher, and Zads. You toss in this years top 4 pick and its not looking so bad. THey need to move on from Duchene, hes the oldest at 26 and doesnt fit into their time line any more. As good as he has been for a long time, his time in Colorado has come to an end and he knows it too. Its affecting his play, these rumours have really tore him down.

Get a good package of 2-3 pieces of 22 years and under to build with that new core of Avs players for Duchene. They have the cap space next year to add a little in UFA. Its not a tear down rebuild, but a good reboot

I still wouldnt feel great about it. Its a lot of good good pieces however there are only really 2 that are for sure. Rask and Hanafin. Gauthier is a good prospect but he is jus that a prospect who has yet to play a game of pro hockey AHL or NHL... and draft picks are what they are, unknown in 2018 and 2019 so who knows what they really hold without knowing the draft position.

So really I see it as Rask and Hanafin and some risk for MacKinnon. I dont feel comfortable moving MacK bc even with Hanafin there is some unknown in his game...granted he has been a lot better down the stretch for the Canes but is it a top pairing Dman lock or a 2nd pairing? Its a solid rich package but it puts a lot of pressure on the Avs to draft and develop the vast majority of the pieces. And with their track record lately, I wouldnt feel comfortable with that task
