Deadline Moves

Created by: EnKay29
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 6, 2022
Published: Feb. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kyle Dubas today in his press conference said that they are looking at players with term on their contract. I assume this means that they are not going after UFAs. Which for a team like the leafs with limited cap space and limited draft pick capital makes the most sense. I am aware that they are over the cap limit. However, it does not factor that the leafs will have more cap space available to them by the trade deadline. So I would not be surprised if they sign Josh Ho-Sang or have Timothy Liljegren on the NHL roster for the rest of the year. The D pairing also are not final, I just put the forward lines together like they are im not Sheldon Keefe
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Soucy, Carson
Additional Details:
The leafs get a defensive minded defenceman that they need that actually defends well and he has a low cap hit on 2 year term. The only worry is he is not a great puck mover and could have trouble in the leafs system.
SEA
  1. Dermott, Travis
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Seattle gets a decent pick plus a 3rd Pair D who is 25 and shown to be able to play really well in sheltered minutes. Only 1. 5 Million Cap hit and can step into nhl minutes right away to keep seattle competitive.
2.
TOR
  1. Lyubushkin, Ilya
Additional Details:
The leafs get a depth D man who is purely defensive minded. The cost of Hirvonen is high for a depth piece but the cost does factor in they are dumping Nick Ritchies contract as well for next year.
ARI
  1. Hirvonen, Roni [Reserve List]
  2. Ritchie, Nick
Additional Details:
Arizona gets a forward piece that they can play in hopes to pump and dumb. They also get a former Second round pick who projects to be a middle six forward. I think that is a decent return on for taking on a bad contract and moving a depth expiring ufa.

He also said he wants to wait to see how the team plays before doing anything.

Good Trades!

I like both of them for the leafs, but idk if the other teams would do it

I dont think Seattle parts ways with Soucy that easilly(could be wrong), Soucy has been pretty decent on Seattle iirc(probs need to add a 4th or 5th for a sweetner)

I like 2nd one, but I think leafs retain a bit on ritchie since I dont think Arizona wants cap dumps with term

Good post tho!

(holl on line 1 D tho >frown )

Thank you! I tried being more realistic than most trades on here. Holl is definitely not on the first pair. I said in the description I didnt edit the pairings i just left them (tho I thought I put Rielly and Brodie together)
