Crazy scenario

Team: 2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2022
Published: Feb. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This would be nuts. I know with Laine's recent play it's unlikely CBJ trades him but if they do I feel that Carolina would be a great fit because he knows Aho well and he more that likely knows KK pretty well with him being finnish too.

Laine is putting up a point per game while playing just fine defenseivley while Necas is having the worst season of his career i'd say your underestimating Laine and Overestimating Necas.

Laine is a defensive turnstile. Necas is playing top six minutes on a contender and is still a major part of probably the best team in the East.

I think you need to really watch the CBJ-Canes game tonight to see what I mean.

Canes decline. Laine is unstoppable at this moment in time. However. He is gonna cool off. It’s one of the few offers that’s an overpay tho. I’ll give you that.

With what? He's going to go to Russia? He's an RFA, he can't just walk away. He's got injury problems and a career-high of 50 points. Where is he going to get that kind of payday from?

he can always ask for a trade or he will sit out

Okay, then he doesn't get an NHL paycheck. Carolina are not obliged to trade him and can make him sit. He's got no leverage.

And make a fraction of the money?

They can EASILY low ball him. He's got 0 leverage. No one will offer sheet him. He's a cancer. No one will trade for him. Hell, Carolina were the only team to take a flier on him because of what happened in New York and his off-ice issues. Yeah, he's go 0 leverage. He's basically got a choice of playing in... where Finland? Sweden? You think he's going to be let into Russia with his views, that's funny.

with he way he has turned him self around I'm sure teams would be interested in giving him an opportunity

Where? Where would he have a leadership core strong enough to shut up him, a defensive partner that covers for his AWFUL defensive game, the cap space to pay him what he wants AND have the assets to trade for him?

they would despite what C2000 says. I expect the Canes and TDA to go to arbitration this season. TDA can play it cool for one more season and then get a really big payday from someone for 2 years of really good offensive play and no issues. Canes replace him with the ELC of Morrow. Win-win for both.
