Idk man, i think we need a true starter even for 1 or 2 years until skinner can take the reigns. Im not sure if yamo and puli would take that cheap either. Id rather have barrie than braun even at 4 mil

I dont think you'll need to buy out Kass. Someone will want him after they get beat up in the playoffs. He only has 2 years left and can fill in a top 6 position in a pinch

Lets make a wager now, i bet both Pulju and Yams dont even get that much on their extensions. I agree about the starter though

I can see after this playoffs no oilers fan will want to get rid of kass. He was a beast last time woody was behind the bench would assume that’s the kass he remembers and tries getting back to that. Fans have short memories one series can change everyone’s opinions.

Yam don’t think is far off that but jp will get more he’s already given the team a bargain deal when coming back from Finland.

I would tend to agree on a starting Goalie however the list of available FA goalies is thin. Keumper likely resigns in COL, Fluery isn't coming to EDM, and is Campbell a true #1 and will he see the open market.

Yamo and JP may get bridge deals and honestly I am fine with that, they are still RFA's so they are limited in bargaining power.

Barrie is a redundancy, EDM needs defensively conscious players. Secondly EDM needs cap space so swapping Barrie for Braun and creating $2.5M is space goes a longgggggg way with a flat cap.

Factor in larger raises for JP & Yam, Barrie and a Starting goalie at $5M per and EDM is well over the cap which means someone goes.

So you'll take the bet then lol 🙂 because i have a feeling neither will be getting long extensions. They'll be 1 or 2 yr deals each with Yams around 2 and Jesse a little higher

Probably Barrie and/or Kassian and potentially Foegele. Any combo or all. But even 1 of Jesse or Kailer could be on there way out

I strongly disagree, Kassian hasn't pissed a drop in a year but perhaps you are right. Buyout seems like the road to him finding a new home in the NHL

What if oilers don’t go out and add a starting goalie and decide to go with kosk and skinner? Smith retires. Kosk has shown in a tandem role he can hold up really well against quality teams and splitting the job with skinner means not likely going to have to overplay the crap out of him. That’s when he starts to suck but playing every second game or a 2-2 rotation he’s not a bad choice at all.

I have a hard time seeing Edmonton going long term at this point (this isn't me saying I don't wanna see JP or Yam signed long term) its just the roster has holes and bridge deals would allow them some flexibility in the flat cap

At the end of the season do you see either party looking to make a deal? Holland cannot come back with the same tandem, its a big IF that Smith retires (we can dream) and Koski has been treated like crap here by the media and some Oilers coaches so I struggle to see that happening but your idea isn't crazy at all it just seems unlikely

Jp signed a two year bridge type of deal to come back from Finland. Think there is a lot of risk in trying to bridge again if do he showed early on this year he can produce wait and let the consistency catch up could cost a lot more in a 2 years. This is a deal I’d much prefer to see done long term ASAP. Take the short term pain for long term gain in my opinion.

EDM bridged Nurse twice so its not impossible to think it could happen again. But you're right it can cost you a lot more in 2 years than what it would cost doing it now

Well how long have we been saying Holland can’t come back with same tandem and he does. My guess on what can happen is smith gets put on waivers and allowed to go home eat the final year of his deal since it’s waived would be around a million cap hit next year. Resign kosk for a year or two for 3.5ish letting him get the tougher match ups while letting skinner take the rest. It is a different tandem so Holland can atleast say he made a change while doing very little. I think the treatment towards kosk has already changed since woodcroft took over and kinda brought new life in him. I’ve noticed the team even treats him a bit differently since woody took over they go out of their way to praise him when talking to media the go over to him more often after one gets by him that shouldn’t just to show support. All that I believe does matter and changes a persons attitude. I don’t think this would even be a conversation if coaching change hasn’t occurred.
