If the Kings wouldn't move him when they sucked, why would they move him now?

They got Petersen as their new number 1, having 10 million wrapped up in goalies might not be ideal. Though they can probably afford to move him at the draft as Petersen's new deal doesnt kick in until next year. But if they want to add Chychrun they need to move out salary, Quick seemed like the easiest way of doing that

Except that we won't downgrade from Jonathan Quick to Petr Mrazek, who's giving up more than half a goal per game over his career average (and 2% under his career save percentage), just for the extra year of back-up service and two seconds. Also, Quick is cheaper despite his cap hit ($2.5 million), whereas Mrazek is more expensive than his cap hit ($4.2 million and $4.4 million).

We have no cap concerns next season despite the fact that we have to give raises to Adrian Kempe and Mikey Anderson as well as (theoretically) absorb Jakob Chychrun's cap hit, because we have Dustin Brown, Alex Edler and Olli Maatta coming off the books. (I've done a construction where the Kings acquire Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov, whose cap hits total $11.75 million, without difficulty.) Once a team is well below the cap ceiling, it's all Monopoly money. And Petersen and Quick would be $1.7 million cheaper than Petersen and Mrazek.

Ahh that makes a ton of sense, I'm guessing a chychrun move would be an offseason move then correct? Yeah I didnt do much more than a surface level look into the Kings, I was mostly just seeing what would stick

Right now, the team's major need is a high-quality LD to add to youngsters Mikey Anderson and Tobias Bjornfot. (At the beginning of the season, GM Rob Blake delivered himself of some comments on that subject that pointed to guys like Jakob Chychrun, Ivan Provorov, Mikhail Sergachev and Zack Werenski, but I don't know how available any of them are.) RD is permanently set as is with Drew Doughty, Matt Roy and Sean Durzi there with Sean Walker returning from injury and Brandt Clarke and Brock Faber in the wings; even excellent RD prospects like Jordan Spence and Helge Grans appear surplus at this point. A secondary question is the eventual replacement of Dustin Brown at RW. Center is full with Anze Kopitar, Phillip Danault and Quinton Byfield backed up by Blake Lizotte, Gabe Vilardi, Alex Turcotte and Rasmus Kupari. Left-handed forwards are in such plentiful supply that Alex Iafallo and Trevor Moore have enabled Los Angeles to play Adrian Kempe and Arthur Kaliyev on RW along with "natural" rightie Viktor Arvidsson. The goaltending is set for at least one more year, inasmuch as Jonathan Quick is having a better year than Cal Petersen. Now you're all caught up.

And hey that's pretty good for you guys it seems like you're playing with house money, yeah once you lay it out like that I feel like the Kings and Leafs arent the best trading partners right now, unless in the off season you guys are comfortable trading back for Muzzin and running him alongside Durzi or Roy. As you get more experience, you'll find that certain fanbases are reasonable, friendly and courteous. Both SoCal team fans are that way, but the best fanbase of all are the Minnesota guys (with one notable exception).
