Works for team who have a GM who knows what they're doing,

Than you got Dubas and Co.

so you agree, your proposal would be a bad move

Nope... read my updated statement

The Leafs filled the holes they needed by riding themselves of a star player, Kapanen scored at half scoring pace as Kessel but at 1/3 the price. And those picks from the Kessel trade went to Ana for Freddie Anderson, the biggest issue the Leafs had for a decade.

In other words trading a star player helped build the success the Leafs have.

And the Pens did well too

And I never mentioned which player to target, you missed my explanation that trading Nylander wouldn't just be for picks?

If the Leafs lose in the first round again, they might as well go scorched earth and just tear everything down. The only player that should be considered safe from a Leafs scorched Earth should be Matthews, Bunting, and maybe Marner. Tavares really can’t be traded, so Marner might have to go, but if at all possible, try to trade Tavares, and if nobody bites, try Marner. I mean, if we are being honest, it’s not like the Leafs would miss anything even if they made the playoffs, so they might as well just rebuild and try again in about 4-5 years.

Trading Marner would upset Matthews, J.T. has a NMC and very unlikely want to leave, which leaves us to Nylander. He can be replaced.

except that the pens traded worse players for a better one and won two cups in a row. And if the leafs issues can be solved by trading futures for the pieces needed they should just trade futures for them like the Pens did, or Tampa did or Chicago did. So why are they trading Nylander for futures when they actually need Nylander and more big pieces?

yeah, losing to one of the 3 teams in the league better than you is a great reason to go scorched earth. that makes no sense at all.

Yet they have had that same lack of success for the past what, 18 years. They clearly aren’t going anywhere with this core, so they might as well burn it to the ground.

the core has literally been together for 2 full playoff rounds and one of those was in a weird covid play in, this is nonsense panic crap by people who want change for the sake of change. How does burning it to the ground help anything other than allowing people to not have expectations anymore?
